I have just finished building a new rig and finally got around to installing P3DV5 (What a long nightmare that was/is) and now along comes V6.
I wonder what will work in it and who will develop for it?

Yeah, does seem like a bit of a Meh release. No doubt good for the scenario/training folks, and probably would be nice to have some more accurate/detailed auto-gen buildings/models in cities and default airports etc. It's not gonna attract any new buyers tho

Have you (or any other NZFF-ers) installed the v5.4 client? Looks like its pretty seamless, my P3D rig is running sweet under 5.3 and dont wanna screw it up, but looks like a uninstall-old-client-reinstall-new-client is pretty safe

I have been using P3Dv4.5 and have gone straight to v5.4.

Clearly you aren't pulling the trigger on MSFS yet, presumably P3D fulfils your travel needs!
Steve what kind of flying do you do, given your day job?

I'm just not sure that I an run MSFS adequately with my rural internet connection. It's a 30Mb/s connection, but its usually a little less than that.
The initial download of P3DV5.4 took long enough, so I dread to think how long it will take to download MSFS.....and then there is the updates.
I do intend to give it a go soonish though.
Despite my day job, I do tend to fly the heavy metal stuff in P3D. I do the odd VFR jolly, but I have always found the scenery a bit meh when down low, especially with the poor autogen.
Although I am looking forward to doing one of the NZFF multiplayer VFR flights on MSFS (if it works and can stream fast enough).

Our (rural) community badgered Chorus until they hooked up fibre in the district.
I now have 950 Mb/s down, and it was worth the effort!
You might try doing this too, by the time it's in, MSFS 2024 will be ready, which seems to tick most boxes.

One of the points that the developers have made about MSFS2024 is they're putting more of the core game into the cloud, so the downside to that from your point of view would be more downloads while you're in the sim, but the upside is much less in the way of initial install and subsequent update downloads apparently, and you won't be downloading a bunch of stuff you'll never actually use. My download is pretty consistent around 45Mbps so not exactly lightning quick and I've never had a problem with MSFS. (apart from long wait times for updates)

My bandwidth allowance is 430 GB/month. In my old Classic FS9.1, I could fly a Connie from Dublin to Darwin (and beyond) in VFR Pilotage, because all the mesh and scenery was stored in my computer. I was very reluctant to go with Steam, but there was no other way to get AFS4. So far, bandwidth usage has been reasonable. I don't think AFS4 makes me 'play in the cloud' i.e. download the scenery every time I fly. MSFS is brilliant, no question, but I want it all in my machine, updated under my control. not automatically by MS.
