Just thought I'd chuck up this poll - how do you use time acceleration in FS?

Thanks

But some people like myself would like to fly a route but not have to see the whole cruise at night or where you see noting but 1 cloud covering the whole route you are flying.

I'd rather get the satisfaction of being able to say I didn't just sit in front of my computer for 12 hours.. Slightly nerdy isn't it?VH-CC1 wrote:QUOTE (VH-CC1 @ Oct 14 2007, 05:51 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>why use fs or even fly if ur going to use Time Acceleration...
Because you're really not missing much.. I normally use it from 10 mins after I reach cruise alt until about 5 mins before TOD. If I'm in a good mood.

I definetly didn't sit infront of my PC for 12 hours straight! I took off last night, watched TV, went to bed, woke up, watched the rugby, had breakfast and then landed at 11am this morningReal pilots do simular things, they take shifts in the cockpits while the others sleep.

Yup i have to say i have only used it a few times,
the only problem with using it which should be a good thing is that if you have planned an IFR flight you always have to be on the ball with ATC, because if you speed it up and miss a message then eventually they cancel the plan, so its best to always fly real time, plus if your goal is to be sitting in the real position in 5-10years time (ME) then its best to get the training....
Thought i'd throw my 2cents in!

some of us do charts ,planing and talking to mates online ,also some dont just fly heavys and turn the auto pilot on ,ive flown one of my choppers around NZ three times landing at nearly every airport by hand twice and once with the help of AP ,those kind of trips take 12hours or more ,so it depends on what your realisum is to you ,
if you like just taking off/ speeding things up telling everyone that youve just done a 20 hour flight to the uk so be it i suppose ...

I personally don't use time compression, I just don't fly flights longer than an hour or so very regularly.
Thanks for posting guys - interesting replies.

I think what would have been an interesting poll Alex, would have been to add a little question on the end - IF you don't accelerate time, are you an online flyer? If you do accelerate time, do you fly offline? You've pretty much captured the essence of the online simmer and the offline simmer with that question. Both worthy occupations. Onliners don't accelerate time, offliners have no problem with it. I'm an onliner more than 50% of the time (and a VPA pilot, so it kind of goes without saying) so I don't accelerate time.

Well I can't say I do long haul flights to brag about it, who am I going to brag to? ( FS is like my secret shameful fetish noone knows about) and I guess Alister was right, when you're flying online, you've got mates to talk to etc, so I don't speed it up when I'm online.
Generally I prefer to fly larger aircraft, but I don't have much spare time. Due to the fact that two airports capable of handling a 777/747 are normally quite far apart, the best choice for me is to fly those longer sectors while having the sim sped up.

Also on the networks you aren't supposed to (read: against Rules & Regs) fly accelerated flights - which may have been in part what Alister was saying.
Well Alister, its easy to suggest good ideas in retrospect - but in the 'heat of the post', logical thought seems to fly out the window.

Round Kiwi round 3 times, overnight stops.
Charts, planning, wind direction, stuff like that HAS to be sorted er route on x20billion speed there's no time.QUOTEI'd rather get the satisfaction of being able to say I didn't just sit in front of my computer for 12 hours.. Slightly nerdy isn't it?[/quote]
dude, there's BIG BIG money in gaming, more you know about the product more chance you have of getting the sh!t right for it... Nerdy? having cr@p loads of money from playing a flight game, not really. 50% of my flight is for training, can u time accel in real life? NO..
