FS Video Software help

A forum to share your FS video clips and movies

Postby happytraveller » Mon Oct 11, 2010 2:59 am

More advice needed. I tried out FRAPS and although it is easy to use, it really hits the frame rates hard, making FSX unusable. So now I am left wondering what alternative programs there are for making FSX videos that are not heavy on frame rates. From what I could guess, FRAPS seemed to take about 10fps off my system, which was a surprise.

So can anyone recommend an alternative program that is 'light' on CPU workload?????

Hoping to move into the world of FSX videos, once I get past this challenge!

smooth landings.

There is a program called Gun Cam that seems to have less overhead than Fraps.

http://www.growlersoftware.com/

Back in the dark ages I did a test video using it and was impressed

One method to get better framerates is to record at half speed (or even quarter) in the sim and set your recording software to capture at a low fps. Then in the editing process you speed up the footage, increasing the fps and retaining the fluid motion you had when slowing down the sim. It's a looooooong process though.

I dont know how many cores you are running but if you have quads you could try setting the affinity of FSX to run on cores 2,3,4 with the following code in the FSX.cfg.

[JOBSCHEDULER]
AffinityMask=14

Run up fraps open the task manager, go to processes, (you may need to have higher privileges) and set the affinity to number 1 core only, that way fraps will not interfere with the FSX process and you will get good frame rates.

Im a frapper and up until now all my movies have be done with the above tip which not only helps the jars it also gives the scenery in the background time to load ,bear in mind i only ever had a 3.0 ghz single core ,i now have 6 so i mite try masking them up like the above mention , thumbup1.gif

another method is to record with FSRecorder, than play your recorded movie and record this with fraps or another tool.
