I downloaded a full version of Flyhalf's brilliant farewell to FS9 - End of an Era (Here - 40 Meg Zip or On YouTube) and was browsing the FS2004.com Forum when I see he mentions a program called Recorder Module.

It enables FS9 to record all data to play back in FS9 and different camera angles, similar to instant replay but you can actually fly in the replay with another plane. So, you could record a flight then fly alongside it in formation.

The download on AVSim is HERE

I haven't tried it just yet but am about to, just thought I would post 'bout it, and will let you know what it's like....

Definitely has real potential. An easy add on module that works a treat!

I flew a quick takeoff, turn, and level off - recorded it thn played that track back as an AI plane. I chose a diff plane, started beside the AI on the runway and then tried some formation flying ...

I have 1.5 gigs of Fraps footage to sort thru now and maybe tomorrow will put together a vid...

Yes it is brilliant - the newest version (which I haven't tried yet) has options of recording AI as well I think.

I was going to write a blurb about this clip:

which was made with Recorder Module, but somehow never got the time ;)
Your imagination is the only limit with this.
Thanks for posting the heads-up Matt

You may have to re-do that link Charl, it goes to the root of your Photo-Bucket log-in.

Here's something I put together tonight:

That's amazing, I also unpacked the RealAir Spit this afternoon and hooned around Turangi with it. Must be the late winter sap rising ;)
Looks like you had a lot of fun with them, formation flying with AI can be pretty tough, huh?
How'd you do the panning effect? thought that gave a great feel.

Above link is fixed, serves me right for barging in on your action :P
I remember now why I didn't follow up - it's just a clip from something lying unfinished in some folder on the F:\ drive.
I had another flying routine complete with saved .frc file for a Chipmunk, that I was going to upload, too.
Maybe once the AI has settled into a rythm...,

The panning effect and quite a few other view options (ie three different tower views) are in the Recorder module, I was in a hurry to get this vid done (in amongst "are you still messing about on that bloody computer ...." ) so didn't really experiment.

I flew the takeoff and landing and saved those flights to replay back as AI.... and realised at once why Spitty's were painted in those colours, it's damn near impossible to find them from above, they blend in with the countryside! So, the shot with me chasing the AI plane after takeoff was the only time I really found it lol. Next time I will do a pre-planned heading and altitude I think.

I finnaly got around to downloading this module, and can't belive I waited so long to try it out- it's awesome!

I have been flying two tiger moths around in formation all morning, then escorted Airforce One over the Atlantic with my RAF Tornado... excellent fun :P

Anyhow, I have a question about recording with it. Is it possible to record more than one other aircraft, ie- have a formation of 3/4/5 planes flying around together?

If so, then how?

I tried doing it at New Plymouth earlier, recording me flying the circuit in a Tiger Moth. Once I landed, I swapped into a new Moth, and played as AI, following my previous Moth around the circuit. During the playback, I hit record again, and ticked the AI box, but when I landed for the second time, and swapped to a third Moth to try a threesome formation, I only saw my last Moth on the playback, not my first one...

Do you follow?

Yep I follow. When you play back the flights you can CTRL and click as many at once as you want.

I generally record the first, then pay back that and fly with it, recording the second, then play back those two at one and fly, recording the third trip, and so on. I don't use the record AI part. Then when you've done you can play them all back at once...

Oh I see, sweet!

Thanks for explaining that Matt, I think I now have an excuse to finally purchase REAL NZ Wanaka ;)
