Flight Club - January 15th - Raglan to Coromandel

Welcome back to the Flight Club!

Last year the Flight Club finished off by landing at Raglan, this year we will be continuing our tour through our virtual New Zealand. The chocks and parking brake have been on our aircraft for the past couple of weeks while we have vacationed during the Christmas Holidays. Now its that time again to release them and come back for more weekly fun with the VATNZ Flight Club.

On January 15th we will be leaving the beachside surf town of Raglan and heading off to another subtropical paradise, Coromandel via Mercer, Pauanui and Matarangi. Navigating to and from these airports will be easy following only two highways and the rest coastlines.

This would also be a great opportunity to come join the Flight Club for the first flight of the year if you never have.

Note: Airports in the Coromandel Peninsula can be small so be courteous to other pilots and report intentions on the radio at all times!

Departure Time: Thursday 15th January 2009 19:00
Flight Time: 1.0 to 1.5hrs
Route:
  • From Raglan track in the direction of Hamilton to join SH1, then follow north to Mercer (NZME), perform t&g.
  • After the touch and go head east towards the coast and fly over the Firth of Thames to Thames (NZTH), perform t&g.
  • From Thames depart in an easterly direction heading for the eastern side of the Coromandel Penisula to Wharekawa Harbour.
  • Head North for along the coastline for Pauanui Beach (NZUN), perform t&g.
  • Continue following coast to the north and at Mercury Bay cut across the land to Matarangi at Hukarahi. At Matarangi (NZAG), perform t&g.
  • From Matarangi follow SH25 to Coromandel (NZCX) to land.

If you feel unfamiliar with the route you can follow another pilot who knows where they are going!
