Was good to catch up with you guys last night... even if it did cost me my comp...

I made the foolish mistake of installing a new utility after I disconnected... and it has fried my windows install... when booting up it starts to load up the login screen then bluescreens with something like:

'An error has occurred while starting up the windows login screen... the system has been shut down'

So I tried to do a repair install, and now when the WindowsXP screen starts up its there for about 2 seconds then the comp reboots... it boots in safe mode, but refuses to go in a standard boot... *sigh*... guess I'll finally get around to the OS reinstall I have been thinking about for the last 3 or 4 weeks.

Anyway, I guess what I'm trying to say is that I may not be online for a while!

mate you didnt have a sound or vid driver update through MS Update did you? this happened to me once and it was MS updating my sound drivers to something that didnt work so dont blitz your OS just yet but DO turn autoupdate off

Nah... I have the auto-update set to notification only...

having said that, I think it installed a WGA update yesterday as well... all i did was install a copy of AnyDVD... and restarted at the end of the install...

I've already invested about an hour trying to fix it... and to be honest, it needed an OS re-install anyway... its been at least 6 months since I did it and with all the little utils that had been installed/uninstalled etc, the whole machine had started to run like a bit of a dog...

the OS is sitting on its own drive, so I'm not really going to lose much if I blow it away... and it will be less hassle than trying to hack it back into working order

I tried connecting last night also, but kept recieving the 'not all players were able to connect' message untill about 2.30am!

Yep... it sure does...

Against my better judgement, I tried to fiddle with it again... but again, no luck... so I started up in Safe mode... backed up what I wanted and formatted the drive... I am just waiting for XP to reinstall... approximately 34 minutes to go...

plus the 87 critical updates I will have to reinstall from microsoft update... *sigh*...

But I will remember to create an image of the fresh install so that next time I can just reimage the drive and be done with it in about 10 minutes!

well i did make it online lastnight for about 3hrs doing the Voz tour but must of been alittle late for ya ,,this time i was in bed by half 12 am wow
