Upcoming weekend 27/28th

For everything about online flying around New Zealand

Postby SeanTK » Tue Aug 23, 2011 7:39 am

This is a while ahead of time, so it's very tentative, in that I am still unsure of my activities over the upcoming weekend.

Dates and times given in the following format (NZ times / US times) thanks to my 14 hour time difference.

Sunday, August 28 / Saturday, August 27
12pm / 8pm

VATSIM system. Route will be based on coverage/ATC availability.

ALSO
I may also be online earlier in the day flying locally in New Zealand, but this is likely too early in the morning for most here. (1 or 2pm my time....)
That would be on the inspire.nz server.

At this time, I must say that I may not be available for these online flights. The hurricane is guaranteed to hug the US eastern seaboard, which means heavy rain and relatively strong winds for my location. That also means that there is a chance for a power outage of extended duration.

I'll try to post an update on the conditions if I can. Still hard to say how badly we'll get hit. I'm west of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, so we by far will NOT get anywhere close to the worst of it, but a good bit of rain and gust up to 60 miles per hour (potentially....still trying to research predicted wind conditions) may put me out of action.

Three possibilities I could see:

1. Flights go on as normal, and I go to bed as normal after.
2. Flights go on as normal, but it's too noisy and rough outside to sleep well, so I may as well stay up and chat online or on the forums for a while.
3. We get nailed by a power outage and everything else that comes with hurricane/cyclone exposure.

Other than some downed trees and a lack of electricity for a day, the hurricane wasn't that big of a deal in my region. Hoping to do some online flights in a couple weeks. (Away next weekend)
