For everything about online flying around New Zealand

Group VFR Flight - Sunday, 6 March 2022 at 7.30pm

Postby ZK-DWF » Thu Feb 24, 2022 9:10 am

I'm doing another group VFR flight on the night of 6 March 2022 (Sunday) starting at 7.30pm (NZDT).

Departing Rotorua Airport (NZRO), and ending up at Ardmore (NZAR).
Along the way we will be landing (optional) at Tauranga (NZTG), then heading into the Firth of Thames.

Should take 1 to 1.5 hours. Suits GA aircraft.

Flying will be in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020.
Server is South East Asia.

Using Discord 'Long White Cloud' Server for voice traffic. Post to this thread for how to join up, as Discord invitations expire after 24 hours. Please try and have voice available. It makes its easier for everyone to know what's going on.

See you there, Dave (ZKDWF)

Les, I flew this on Tuesday night to check timing, etc.
Did I see you parked up at Waihi?

I'm in, and I put it in my phone calendar this time ... which, of course, pre-supposes I actually have my phone within earshot when the notification comes in!! :)

Good flight last night, but it was only Robin and I.
It was murky weather at Ardmore.
Seemed to have someone ghosting us last night (and they were with us on 20 Feb too) ... rego was P6DOFDRIVER (if you want to join our flights, feel free to come along).

I'll organise another flight for Sunday, 20 March

I woke up at 3am this morning realising I had missed this again. Even though I told my wife about it earlier in the day, *and* had a calendar entry in my phone that should have given me a two hour reminder and for some reason didn't. Maybe distracted by the fact we didn't even eat dinner until around 7:30 last night and then needed to get kids to bed - was a bit of a manic day.
Please, yes, keep organizing - I'll need to come up with a better system of reminding myself.

How about you organise a flight, and then you have a reason to turn up :-)

Sorry Dave i didnt quite make it work.I came up on discord(LesB) saw you and Rob but didnt have a handle
on enabling voice. I since have managed that. I did come up MSFS at NZRO,made sure i was on South East Asia server but saw no one.
I did have to make a repair on my MSFS so now looking into whats going on.
One thing i cant work out is that i generated a Flight plan starting at NZRO ending with NZAr with a stop over at NZTG.
The flight plan in the g1000 showed NZRO and then NZTG and finally NZAR. But the map in MSFS showed me NZRO to NZAR then back to
NZTG. I did not try to fly it to see what happened, anyone explain what i am doing wrong. Used the same method as explained with another route and it showed correctly.
So maybe next time i will be able to join you, here is hoping.

To enable voice in Discord, just click the Unicom line. Then depending on your devices, your Ident will show up under Unicom, and it will show Voice Connected.
To end the voice session, just click the icon with the phone and cross on it.

Another good flight, I flew the Staggerwing of course, although this wasn't entirely successful -- some issues with fuel cutting out, but mainly I have trouble chatting and flying at the same time. Definitely an ASD issue! Same with driving IRL, my family knows not to chat with me otherwise I'll miss exits etc.
So I may or may not have landed at Ardmore without an undercarriage....
