We will be taking off from Kaikoura this week, heading to Nelson in unpredictable weather. This flight will involve flying over the scenic Malborough Sounds and seeing many other breath-taking areas of New Zealand.
We welcome all pilots of all skill levels to come join us on another fantastic flight.
Departure Time: Thursday November 6th 2008 19:00
Flight Time: 1.5 to 2hrs
Route:
However if you feel like you cannot follow specific landmarks to each waypoint you may track direct to each airport.
Late-comers: Late-comers or people not wanting to fly the whole route can join us from Omaka around 20:15
Voice Channel: General pilot-to-pilot voice chat during this will be available on rw1.vatpac.org/vatnzflightclub.
(Use the Private Voice Chat in SB or the Company Frequency feature in FSInn to tune this server.)
For further enjoyment of this flight I recommend you have the following,
- Red Baron New Zealand Land Class
- Geographx 75m Mesh or 20m Mesh (payware)
- Roads and Rivers of New Zealand (payware)

Route:
- depart Kaikoura (NZKI) and follow the coast line to Wharanui, which you will then follow SH1 inland through the town Ward
- Continue following SH1 until you reach Lake Grassmere. Orbit a couple times to get a good panoramic view.
- Once orbits are finished track back on SH1 to Blenhiem, find the airstrip Omaka (NZOM) perform t&g
- After Omaka you will be doing a quick hop over to Woodbourne (NZWB) for another t&g
- From Woodbourne track in a west direction towards to the Wairau River where you should find the Kaituna Valley, follow that to Malborough Sounds.
- Once at Malborough follow it thorugh all its terrain making sure you find your way out through the west until you get to Elaines Bay. Then you follow the west coast down to Nelson (NZNS) for our final stop
