This is for NZFF eyes only, please do not publish any details of this on any other site without my permission!

I've previously announced that I have been looking for a 'proper' job to recover lost income due to illness over the last few years. I still plan to do this, but I've discovered that it isn't so easy to get a job at my age -- it is more than twenty years since I last went job hunting, and it seemed a lot easier back then:) So in the meantime, I am still putting some time into a new Wellington airport.

This is not an update of the existing Real NZ Wellington, it is an entirely new project, and will be sold (and priced) as such. I have no idea when it will be finished, so please don't ask.

Specifications are a bit sketchy at the moment, and some preview features may or may not end up in the final scenery. However it won't cover the same large area as the current Real NZ Wellington.

The original Real NZ Wellington scenery was produced in 2006, for FS2004, and updated in 2008 for FSX. Because it was based on LINZ aerial imagery at 2.5 metres per pixel, it hasn't really aged well and it is definitely time for a new Wellington Airport for FSX, based on today's techniques and tools.

For some time now the old Real NZ Wellington has been relegated to 'legacy' status, which means that despite its age, it is still available for those who want a large-scale Wellington photo scenery and airport for a budget price.

Although this is specifically a project for VLC, I do hope to make it fully compatible with Orbx NZNI. I haven't quite figured out how this will work, or whether it can actually happen, but it is on the list of main goals.

Here's some early previews, which show the high resolution photo scenery and mesh -- the resolution of the mesh is not yet decided, currently it is 2 metres, but there are some issues which will need to be dealt with in beta.

Thanks for the info on postimage, Mike, took just a single copy/paste to create the linked thumbnails here, couldn't be easier. A great find.

According to the PM, Wellington is kaput, some have disagreed.

Looking for a job?
Run these by the Wellington City planners, as a highly accessible tool to help them rejuvenate their place!

Rob, those screenies are brilliant. I lived and worked in that area in the early 60's and the topography looks spot on.

Been a lot of building since then...looks like a few Tsunami risks though..?

Good luck with the job stuff, if they can't pay you the "youth rate" they aren't interested.

When I first worked on Wellington in 2006 I took a couple of very useful copter rides over the airport and city to take photos, and I'd really have to do this again to be able to model the city in a lot more detail than I did originally. Back then it cost $1200+GST per hour, I suspect it might be dearer now. Back then I don't remember even thinking about the cost, but at the moment the cost of a half-hour flight would pay a lot of outstanding bills. So I'd wish for the job, it'll be worth it in the end!

I think his comment was very timely and astute -- obviously his goal was to shake up some people who had become complacent.
On the other hand, I am a long-time supporter, and this isn't the first time I've made excuses for him this week...

The very special thing is having so many photo realistic scenery's with so much detail , the weather/clouds the operational airports that strip any default to pieces .... best thing like many other areas , you don't have the time for the long haul , you can go point to point in a short period cool.gif
