I know you're all looking forward to the FSX demo, but once you try it and decide that you'll be hanging onto FS2004 for the moment:), then head over to the
Godzone Store for 20% off CDs, 10% off downloads...

Thats great news Robin! Hope that offer applys for the upcoming Wellington scenery
For me, and I am sure many others, I will definitly be holding onto FS2004 for a long while yet, and I hope that as soon as FSX is released scenery designers will forget about good old fs9... are you planning to continue making addons for the current m$ edition after 2006 by the way?

I'll be very interested in whether there's still demand for FS2004 scenery into 2007. It may be worthwhile doing dual designs, but from past experience those who don't upgrade generally don't buy scenery either. For all the interest in scenery for FS2002, I think I only sold a dozen Auckland City for FS2002. Everyone wanted it for free.
Once Wellington is complete, the store prices will return to normal. Wellington will not be discounted, except for the pre-order discount in place at the moment.
Wellington is a make-or-break scenario. At the moment I'm taking less than $100 per week, with no reserves after a very dismal result from Wanaka. Basically I sold about 20 locally, which gives me about $400 for 2 month's work. That doesn't take into account the existing subscriptions of course.
Hopefully Wellington will sell well, but if it doesn't then I'll be in the position of having to repay my current debt and have nothing in reserve again. In that case I'll finish my subscription commitments -- one more CD -- and call it a day.
I'd need to double sales to make this workable, so I may end up going back to graphic design, which is a much easier way to make a living:)

Well all I can say is lets hope Wellington's sales are boosted by the popularity of this forum!
I would love to see some more of your work in the future, what would we do without you?

One thing which I didn't really make apparent -- this is a dream job really, I get to do what I love, travel about the country and take the occasional flight. If I can continue, I will.

It would be a VERY SAD day indeed for the Flight Sim community to lose someone that i would consider to be the most talented scenery designer ever,...bar none !
For my money, i will keep on purchasing any work you do Robin, (hence the fact i pre-paid the next 2 CDs), just to make my contribution (however small), to keeping RealNZ going, for ALL of us here in NZ, and to show the world the most beautiful place on earth to fly in,..............GODZONE !! Kiwi's can Fly !!

Well personally, I would be happy to pay more than $30 a CD... perhaps raising the prices on your scenery might help a bit?
I am really hoping REAL NZ will make Auckland International and Ardmore one day too

Funny you should say that, you may notice that Wellington is priced at $39.50, although discounted for pre-orders.
The idea originally was that people should be able to get some good scenery by paying no more than $10 per month (for those of you without calculators, that's $2.50 per week...) This has crept up a bit, of course, given the realities of making a living.
For this to work, though I need 500 customers onboard. There's another business model which works better -- dividing how much the business needs to succeed by (total customer base times number of scenery releases.) This would mean a 250% price rise -- which I'm not prepared to contemplate.
I therefore need to get more customers. That's where Wellington comes in, but I'll be relying on overseas sales -- I don't expect to sell any more here in NZ. And giving overseas simmers a doorway into NZ hopefully means they'll look at other NZ releases to make it a worthwhile destination.
If Wellington succeeds, then Auckland is a must.

I think we will all be wishing you the best of luck, (and keeping fingers crossed) that Wellington will be the success you hope for , and that it deserves to be. Auckland being a must is very understandable from the overseas sales point of view. If Wellington is a success, will you be considering Auckland for CD-5, or is the Hamilton & Gisborne combo still on your list for that one, with Auckland sometime in the near future ??.

Once Auckland Intl is complete, it'll be sold as a separate download, but also added to the current Auckland City CD as an updated release. It can't be a separate CD release because current subscribers will be able to download it as a bonus.

When you say current subscribers will be able to download it as a bonus, does that mean anyone who has already purchased the Auckland City CD, will be able to download it for free ?????? or am i just tired because of the late hour, and misreading or misunderstanding your words ??..............

No, subscribers are specifically those who pre-purchased the 5 scenery CDs via the subscription service.

Ok, thanks for the clarification Robyn. Just misunderstood, was a little tired and it was getting late. Already purchased the first 3CDs from you, and pre-ordered 4 and 5, but missed out on the subscription thing as i was too slow, and it was closed by the time i got my a into g. Will still look forward to NZAA sometime in the future,(and be HAPPY to pay for it), if all goes well with Welly.
