Xplane 10 - horror and disappointment so far...

A single forum dedicated to all other non Microsoft flight simulation games

... after consultation with laminar research sales reps I've bought x10 with USB key with the hope to get wide field of view and cylindrical projection for my simulator. everything turned up ok and installation went without a hitch ... till I've tried to setup cylindrical projection and wide field of view. The maximum fov xplane allows even with the PRO stick is 170 degrees (what a joke) but the image is so severely distorted there is no use for it anyway. When I switched the cylindrical projection on i didn't know if I should laugh or cry ... all I've got was picture so poor and so distorted it brought me back to 90's and win 3.11 era - That's definitely one thing I didn't expected. Looks like if you are hoping for better view or using second monitor with xplane don't even bother ... good old FSX can do much better job.

I thought I'll give it at least shot from the "periscope" view on one monitor to have a look at the promised accurate scenery ... well - all I can say is "what scenery". Nelson was completely unrecognizable and so far off reality even fs2004 is more accurate. After seeing that I've completely lost any interest in Xplane 10... and I'm not sure if i'll wait for X11

q1) Does anybody know if xplane really supports cylindrical projection or is it just poor planar distortion (there is MASSIVE difference in those two things)
q2) Does anybody know if xplane really supports wide field of view? (i'm not talking about networking multiple instalations and computers – that's not support of wide fov but networking support - and that concept is hopefully history for most of us. I’m really happy with present technology and hardware there is no need for it anymore – that feature was essential in 80s, necessary in 90s, handy in 00s and after 2009 it just an annoying anachronism.

If you consulted directly with a Laminar Research rep and they said it all should be hunky dory when it isn't, why not ask for a refund? They obviously gave you false or misleading information in this instance?

X-Plane I discover, is available as an App for iPad.
It looks absolutely stunning.
And costs just $14.
Even if it just flies around in a circle (which it does not, it's the best flight model by far, makes all MSFS planes look like toys), guess what I will take along on my next long-haul flight?
