ATC in FSX Online...no mic?

A forum specifically to discuss the latest and greatest of all flight simulators

So ive had a few sessions using FSX online trough the default gamespy service....but since im only on dialup and dont have a mic i cant really talk to ATC. Furthermore, Microsoft disables all the usual ATC menus when you are playing multiplayer so there doesnt appear to be ANY way of communicating with ATC unless you have a mic (and a decent connection).....

Or am i missing something?

Surely it would be/should be possible to communciate just using the menus similar to when you are in single player....at least then you could give some indication of what you want to do.

Any ideas?

Well when your online itll be like fs9 and have none of the ai atc as that would be silly for the having everyone useing there own ai atc.

In most online situations there isnt likely to be any controllers online so your in uncontrolled airscapce and can do what you want, if your flying were theres no atc but lots of other aircraft you should advise others of what your doing.

Just use text to comunicate, like just open the chat box and say "Alpha bravo charlie taking off rwy 02 NZCH" for example ;)

You can probly comunicate with atc via text too, you can on ivao and vatsim I suppose you can with the fsx multiplayer.

I wounder if the voice would work in fsx on dial up thow, I have dial up and us ts fine hmmm...

Jimmy's right, use the 'chat' box to communicate, voice is fine over dial up, I have broadband, but have flown with guys using dial-up and its not a problem at all, smooth as.

not everyone monitors the chat box tho.
i went online the other day (i don't yet have a decent headset- santa will fix this)- all the servers have voice enabled, some actually require it.

You can get microphones for very little $ down at your local Dick Smith. And almost all voice works over Dial-up.
The only problem is if you are simming (talking) late at night you may get the odd frying pan over the head.
