Where do I look for such scenery?.......I'm surprised that Palmy isn't there, the windfarms would look cool to fly around and anyway, Palmy is by far the most important of the 3 cities!

I have managed to add a paint job and a Kiwi rego to my 172 though....just to keep the airforce happy you understand tongue.gif

So today I went from Hamilton to Christchurch.....mostly above the clouds all done using VOR navigation.....ATC at CH CH wasn't happy because I landed without permission, but they'll get over it!

So......what shall I learn next in my navigation education? All I know is how to get from one VOR point to another one.....what's next? smile.gif

what aircraft are you using mostly, I found learning to fly realisticly was a challenge when I was learning - ie keep within flap limits gear limits etc

Hi,

I'm doing all my training on the 172.....not for any particular reason other than I have done a lot of flying in C206, C185, C182 and a little in the C172, so I'm familiar with the Cessna type with the instrument layout and the basic characteristics of the type. All of my real flying in those types (and the DH Beaver) has been as a skydiver so I'm reasonably familiar with the take off, climb, cruise etc aspects of flying, but in the hundreds of flights, I've only even seen a couple of landings.....which is probably why my descent, approach and landings suck! I think practice is the key to sort that issue out, but I'm also interested in navigation and IFR flying, approach and landing. My thinking is if I can become reasonably proficient on the 172, then I can start to move up the ladder to multi engine, turbine and then jet.

hi there, dont take this the wrong way but what you did was in the real world and not flightsim and that sort of thing can get you or another pilot or passenger killed. Easy to do but just be carefull, good luck on your flying carrer though matey :-)

I no and very sure what Brent ment was if your going to follow rule for rule and procedure you'd go around or find out why you did not get a permission to land you divert to West Melton for example if you were in real world training .... FSX can get fickley at times .. were if on a IFR they send you miles/clicks out .. and when following the in VFR and asked for permission on the normal it would give you permission if landing on the correct runway .. or the tower/comm's will tell you , you don't have permission to land .

This is just my 3rd week of FSX....I think I'm allowed to make a mistake here and there am I not? I don't have an instructor, I'm learning as I go. The good thing is that no one gets killed on FSX!!

Oh I see where you're coming from now....sorry for the confusion. I meant that I have taken hundreds of flights in (real) C182, 185, 206 and a decent amount in the 172 and DH Beaver,.....but I normally exit the aircraft at 10,000', so I really have no idea how to land an aircraft......because I've only even been in one that has landed a couple of times. I understand the take off, climb to altitude and cruise, but after that I'm lost.

So...to start my virtual flying career, I am doing my (virtual) training on the 172 because the instrument layout is familiar to me smile.gif
