When getting taxi clearance to go to the active runway for take off they give the usual "taxi and hold at runway'. So of course I do that and from there all i can see is take off clearance request (after to tune to tower comms, which you were not prompted to do but it is available).
Which seems less then ideal to get take off clearance when you still quite likely have to backtrack and turn around before you start the actual roll down the runway. I realize backtracking and all that means you are in control of that runway, but I just would of thought they would of expected more detail on what you are doign so they can get a better estimate of when the runway will be clear.

I gave up on using FSX's comms system. I just imagine the words I should be saying and then go onto the runway. It's not like anyone is going to file a CAA incident report on you tongue.gif .

It is very limited and quite annoying, sometimes even wrong a lot of the time so you may find yourself like me, not using radios at all rather soon.

I don't use default ATC however there is a freeware program called Edit Voicepack which changes to a better phrasing and adds a few features. Google that smile.gif

Ya, had a look at that in the latest post. I was very unsure on my abilities though. Right now just buzzing along using VFR and the GPS in a 172. I think I would be a danger in the skies .... lol

I remember from my Falcon4 campaigns, the first thing we always did was bomb that bit*h in the tower laugh.gif

Vectoring you in or out of an airport is often pretty bizarre too. I used to think it added to my sense of "immersion", but now it just gets on my nerves.

I tried a few spectator slots on VATSIM once. Boy, was that a learning experience! You had to follow "real" commands to follow *exactly* the correct taxiways etc. and follow correct procedures at every stage. Not easy when you haven't got an airport map handy! When you think about it, though ... they're not going to let a complete idiot (without at least a PPL) stooge around the apron at a busy airport like Auckland are they <???>? laugh.gif
