Wanting to get up to speed with all the various aspects of IFR flying so I can get up to speed for long haul jets and some multiplaying etc. Is there a good resource for this other then the Learning Centre in FSX? Or do i just glean what i can from there?

Hey Venge, apart from the resources shipped with FSX check out the Pilot Resource Center site at VATSIM, hit the IFR lessons link on the left, lots of good stuff for you there...

whathesaid.gif I found VATSIM "a bridge too far" for my current skill level. However - the documentation there is *excellent*. That's not to say it was VATSIM's fault, BTW - they were *really friendly and helpful*.

I think one of the difficulties is to do with the real/unreal aspect of simming. Often, I just poodle about (enjoying the view) then call up ATC when I feel like doing a controlled approach landing (not very accurate in MSFS anyway!). So it comes as a bit of a shock to know (in RL) that there's a *procedure* for everything. I thought you just pointed the sharp end wherever you wanted to go winkyy.gif

The basic question - as far as simming goes - is just how "real" do you want it to get? (short of going for a PPL!).

Ya, the vatsim info is awesome and was exactly what I was looking for. I have a somewhat decent idea about VFR procedures but am hopeless with IFR. VATSIMing will be a bridge too far for me for a while too, but with all this info it is just a matter of time I hope. smile.gif

All those charts and procedures confuse the hell out of me. I can kind of understand what the airport charts say, but I don't get how any one human being can remember and/or follow it so accurately. Remembering what altitude and heading you need to be at certain waypoints, decision heights, etc...

I guess it is all auto-pilot these days though.
