Hi all
This I think is a MUST USE for those out there using FSX. Even if you are happy with your set up (I was) it might make a huge difference to your experience with FSX.
I can't believe how great FSX is running for me now. I have a pretty modest system and this has really changed things. FSX is now a great joy to fly.
Please do give it a try. It only takes a few minutes of your time. Back up your fsx.cfg before replacing with the one they provide you, and no harm will be done if you don't like it.
Sorry if it's been posted before, I didn't find it via a search.

http://www.venetubo.com/fsx.html

I'm sure myself or someone else can talk you through it on this thread if you need help/ advice.

Been meaning to try this for a while and I gave it a go tonight but it made a bit of a mess of my FSX (saved the current CFG so thats ok) ..something didn't agree with my video card as it scrambled my aircraft (I think this is casued by the video card not coping) - I will have to have another look at it at a later date whne I return from camping.

This just means the number of graphs which show the CPU performance -- dual core = 2, quad = 4 etc.
I haven't tried this myself, but only because I have some of his tweaks already. Bear in mind that if you already have a heavily-tweaked cfg, you may not end up better off.
For anyone else, it is well-worth trying, as it fixes a lot of FSX issues in one hit.

I hope you get it sorted Paul - I went with the most conservative recommendations/ tweaks. And good luck Adrian! I hope you have better results.
As I say, I am amazed at my results. I won't even need to upgrade my computer for a while longer, so I'm very happy about that laugh.gif

I was amazed with the results I got, bearing in mind I had a completely un-tweaked FSX, and a low spec PC. Now I am enjoying my Cherokee flying around Horizon VFR's Scottish outer Islands smile.gif

I have had some trouble with the "external framerate limiter" which is recommended on the site. I got it working, and it does it's job, giving better performance in FSX, but I am getting video corruption from time to time. I do need to check and update my video drivers though, which may be out of date!

<Who can now actually enjoy flying FSX, albeit in slow moving VFR aircraft!>

Definitely got a FPS boost using this (20%-40%), and VLC seems to load at a far quicker speed now.

Thanks for the link.

Heres a chart with Nvidia and Ati cards. Not a direct comparison but you could find similar specs?

Reading this I missed a mention of the external frame limiter's use. Thought this was a key part of Jesus's improvements - since I changed, with an internal fixed rate of 20FPS based on my equipment, FSX has been very smooth.

Thanks to SeanG above I am using an external frame rate limiter myself now. I wouldn't say it was a requirement to see good results from this tweak, but as you say, probably will settle and smooth things out. I'm currently limiting FSX to 30fps, and it actually runs smoother than my FS9 also limited to 30fps.
Weird! laugh.gif

After my less than brilliant comment yesterday about 'internal' FPS being set to 20FPS, let me hasten to correct myself. External was set to 20 based on 'Venetubo' recommendation and Internal is, of course, Unlimited.

Mine is still in 'Desktop', in the downloads folder. Open the folder and select (dbl clk) a file named FPS_Limiter_GUI.jar. This brings up a small window with 'settings' highlighted upper left and D3D9 selected at 'choose'. Click 'Search Executable' and browse the path to your fsx.exe file - e.g. Local disk C/Program Files/Microsoft Games/Fligh Simulator X/fsx.exe and 'open' - enter number of FPS recommended by Venetubo config (probably 20 or 30 depending on your rig) then clk 'create bat'. This should provide you with a file which you'll use to start FSX instead of the blue icon you're used to. Find a suitable eye-catching icon - I'm using the big green right facing triangle - and move the previous one well out of the way. When you start with the new icon, a black DOS-style FPS Limiter window will appear ahead of the FSX logo and you'll get a green 'new FPS .....'
Be sure to set your in-game FPS to unlimited.

Hi, if some of you have problems with FPS Limiter, you can try this alternative FPS limiter : http://forum.avsim.net/topic/322993-altern...al-fps-limiter/

Regards.
