Hi guys,

I have been buzzing around on these forums for years and have been content but not ecstatic about FS9 on my laptop (Toshiba Satellite A500 - about 1.5 years old). It runs very well with FS9, REX, various addons, RBE mesh and topo etc.

However I have always been wanting to change to FSX and now with VLC I am desperate!

So I have two options. Put it on my desktop or laptop. Here are the specs of both (copy and pasted - so I can trust you techies on here to work out which is best)

Desktop Info:

HP P6310F

Processor Family: AMD Athlon II Quad Core
Processor Speed: 2.8 GHz
Processor Name: AMD Athlon II X4 630
RAM: 6 GB
Storage Capacity: 1000 GB
RAID: No
Graphics Card: nVidia GeForce 9100
Primary Optical Drive: Dual-Layer DVD+/-RW
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium

Laptop Info:
Toshiba Satellite A500

Processor Intel Core 2 Duo T6500 Dual Core
Processor Speed: 2.1 GHz
RAM capacity 4.00GB
Memory type DDR2
Graphics card ATi Mobility Radeon HD 4570
Graphics card RAM 512MB
Drive Capacity 500GB
Spindle speed 5,400RPM

Which one, if any, would run FSX best with medium settings + the likes of VLC, Ultimate Terrain X etc?

Your desktop would handle FSX far better than your laptop.

Yeah,
if you move to a desktop you will need to upgrade your video card, you will gain significant fps, and you dont even need a really flash one.

I'd say that the graphics card is the MOST important part of gaming. My CPU is rubbish but my graphics card is great so my games run great.

Yes but FSX requires a very good CPU to run well, also a decent HDD and plenty of RAM, Video card not so much but it is important. But yes, you are corrrect in saying that games will run better on a faster Graphics card, games like Crysis 2 and BFBC2 will benefit greatly from a higher end card.

Adrian , You cannot both sim,s on the same Hard Drive , best thing to do is install a second HD to keep them independent , have both installed on the same will cause bleed and crash both sims .

Hmmm, I had both installed for three years without problems. I only gave up FS2004 when my install discs packed up.

I run both on the same Hard Drive too.

No worries with add ons etc. They in different folders though under Program Files / Microsoft Games - FS9 and FSX.

Just saying smile.gif
