Well I have settled nicely into FSX and sort of have it understood.
I would like some feedback on my setting positions if possible.

Many thanks
Adrian.

autogen :set to dense anything higher in NZ seems to have a huge hit in places
scenery : set to anything higher than normal but only makes extra objects to show at airports
water : i like it when im in a non dense autogen and airport area set as good as it will go but when flying inland i set it to 1x low /normal setting as ill get lower performance as soon as i load it high
mesh complex 100%
mesh res 10meter
texture res : i set this to 30cm as most addon airports now are displaying this level if not higher ,for VLC alone id be 2meter like you have set
no shadows ,the worst thing that runs in the sim to me and drops frames by 10-15 flp and real bad on bigger scenery's

controls: i set with no null zones and high sensitivity ,gives more feel to the plane/helicopter which you may like or not

turn crash off for MP flights ,leave them on if you dont mind reloading all the time due to the bad crash boxes which are pretty big on MP and in some scenery's which its hard to avoid ( ie helipads)

to increase performance a little the addons id recommend are REX or flight1 FEx which boost that part of the sims performance (not sure why but they do and look 100% better clouds/weather/water also
the new Shade for FSX is another goodie which for me makes up for not having shadows on and no flp hit
also there is a setting in the FSX.cfg which you can set your screen to wide screen( true/false edit )
also for multi /quad/hex core there is a line to that can be added to fsx.cfg which will change the infinity mask so they use the all/cores better

im running a win7 64bit 6xcore AMD /8 gig ram / 5070 ati 1gb card

hope this can be helpful in some way ...

Looks like the lads have covered most things.
Airport and Road vehicles can be a killer so turn those down if you're still having FPS issues. And aircraft-casts-shadows-on-ground can slow things too (you're on a new machine now though right?)
