When down in Dunedin recently I went up Mt Cargill and snapped this pic...



Was driving around in FSX using Ian's photoreal Dunedin scenery, arrived at pretty much the same spot and got this pic..



Interesting to start comparing real world to virtual.

Good shot Jon, it looks like there isn't enough thick scrub in FSX,which could be fixed with more autogen probably.

And I loled when I saw you get on my Learjet as I was going round at CHCH today.

you don't seem to be having any problems installing FS9 scenery onto FSX- are there any tricks or traps to look out for?

I thought I recognised the handle, the weather was a bit crap eh? I did a quick circuit out of timaru first, then thought I'd see what was happening on the lear. I would have stuck around if I'd known. If you want to fly together 'again' at some stage let me know, shared cockpit is alot of fun.

I'm currently using Ians standard agn files that come with the scenery, so that is naturally limited in the number of items that can be placed per square (whatever the measure is)

FSX is another story, so the FSX annotation tool could be used to add the autogen you mention. Not my area of expertise I'm afraid, but I look foreward to seeing thre results from whatever intrepid person chooses to add more.

No problems so far, probably because they have all been made with the latest tools like GMAX etc, NZWN has been patched by Robin for FSX as well, and Dunedin is a regional scenery that tends to be fine on anything as its effectively texture replacements for the area.

I know earlier stuff like Ian Warrens Nelson wont work only because of the way they were built, all good for FS2002/2004, but FSX really doesnt like them.

Now thats neat.

I'd be interested to see some more real vs FSX photo posts...I'll have a hunt around my computer and see what landscape shots I have!

But Lion Rock??? C'mon Trolly be reasonable, you're not allowed to climb up there!

This is an interesting area of discussion, comparing default FSX against FS9 thats using add-on scenery. Its easy to forget that FS9 has had 2 years to mature and for people to develop add-ons, so I doubt anything could knock Real NZ Auckland off its perch as THE best add-on for FS9 for that area, when its patched for FSX and additional autogen is added, I think it will give the FS9 version more than a run for its money.

FSX has only just been released, and yet without any add-on scenery it does, in my view, a pretty good job. Turn off your add-on scenery and see if you get this in FS9..



And this out in Piha. Not perfect by any means, but for default scenery I'm not complaining.
