interesting problem

Heya all, i am having an interesting problem in FSX, i will be flying along, and after 10-15 minutes i lose the airspeed readout, not just in the cockpit, but also in the ctrl+Z readout, this makes flying pretty much anything tough as without an airspeed i cant use auto throttle on the commercial heavies, and its tough to fly taildraggers and warbirds, any thoughts as to why this happens?

Cheers

I'm 99% sure this is because your pitot tube has iced up!

What height were you at? Did you turn the pitot heater on?

Some models, i.e. Carenado C185, are prone to losing pitot-static info - regardless of conditions. Just add 'pitot heat on' to your pretakeoff checks.

I would believe that if it is Accusimed , never had this problem with the complete range , heavies to taildraggers .. anda course the cheat ctrl+Z , not much info to go on , is this in default aircraft or payware ? .

Ian, its happens with default airplanes, payware, and freeware airplanes, first found it with the Alphasim TU-160, then default 737, Tomas Ruths Tu-144, A330F & MRTT, PA A318, JK's DC-4M, Manfred Jahns DC-3, the Warning stars, Skyspirit 767, Tim conrads A-1, WOP II P-40, Freeware C-5.. Generally what happens is after takeoff, climbing through about 1000AGL, and with the heavies especially as im engaging the Auto Pilot it disappears, so Speed control especially is out.
im thinking i might do a re-install of FSX, clean out the remains of lots of installs/uninstalls and start again.

I think a reinstall dose the system a world of good , just this is an error I never seen or heard of before , you maybe right in doing , i get these issues in other areas with FSX , such a complex program with so much to add , it just dose the 'funky chicken' willy nilly anytime .

All things considered, you've got to believe this is a glitch in FSX unless, of course, the developer built this pitot problem into the model. Then there's always the chance your computer room is at condensation level humidity with an ambient temperature less than zero centigrade smile.gif .

Ive had another fly with a couple of the above mentioned airframes, with the setup to ice the airframe up, and it did ice up the airframe and lose the airspeed... pitot heat did indeed correct the situation... talk about blonde moments....

If you get the C-130 pack, you'll need the Antarctica X scenery too - would never land at McMurdo on fsx again without it!! Only qualm is that South Pole Station isn't modelled, which sucks sleep.gif Good luck getting the airspeed working again though mate!!
