Hey guys, I hope I'm not a pain in the neck here asking this.
But as the PMDG 777 seems to be out soon, or not, I don't know, I asked myself "Why don't you change to the FSX pal?"

Well if it was that easy. I'm a student and probably soon to be flight student, so I live on little money
and I don't accept buying a whole new FSX-fitting system.
So first of, here are my laptop specs:

Intel Core i5-2450M @2.5GHZ
6 GB of RAM
GeForce GT630M with 1GB of RAM I guess
Don't worry about HDD space.

I have my FS9 locked to 20FPS and it runs quite well. Ok it shouldn't be too cloudy.
But with sunny weather I can run the PMDG MD-11 at FsDreamTeam LAX with 100% traffic at 20FPS
If we take some clouds, it might go down to 15FPS and if we go full power I'm down to 10FPS. I think that is ok for the system.
Though, I'm not sure about the FSX. Is it going to look OK and running GOOD? Or maybe even looking GOOD and running WELL?



So as I'm having the FS9 from the day it was released, I'm having a bunch of add ons. It went far beyond N°100.
Some are working with the FSX as well, but most are not.

So guys, any ideas? How did you deal with this issue? Should I say struggle?

I can run FSX on the HP Probook 4520 i5-M480 2.67GHz 32bit 4.0GB(2.98 GB usable) but only for testing really , - ATI mobility Radeon HD6370 , .. have not upgraded drivers simple i don't use this for FS , least only to save files , not that much a laptop fan but it still can run a limited FSX fly , FS9 tho would show good results is guess ? ..

Sure FS9 runs just fine, but I have concerns about the FSX here

I am not sure if it's a good idea to switch to fsx right now if you are not already using it and having bought a huge number of fsx add-ons. While I use Prepar3d 1.4 exclusively now, I would not suggest getting this one either. Instead, I would wait for Prepar3d 2.0 expected to be released around the end of this year. This one will have DX11 support, better multi-core support, better memory management and is expected to show a better overall performance.

There are two reasons I'd not switch right now: (i) LM did not yet make any final statements on compatibility of present add-ons, so you may have to invest again (my personal take on this: most present add-ons will be usable, but there will be certainly new graphics features for future add-ons to support). (ii) LM already said there will be no upgrade discount for present users (at least of the Academic version), which is okay with me given MS did not offer any upgrades either and the academic version costs just 50 $.

I've been happily cruising along in FS9.5.
The whole world is my oyster, never ran out of headroom after all these years.
I too have been waiting for P3D to look more solid before taking a look there.
At this stage there is no way I'd invest $100's in starting up a full-blown FSX sim.

Of course nothing stops you from running both; I run FSX as a curiosity because occasionally there's something that catches my fancy.
