i shall have to wait till the 21st to download, but it should be worth the wait
p.s. 800MB at 5kB/s (dial up) = 1 day, 20 hours of downloading.
800MB at 250k/s (2mbit broadband) = 54 minutes

Depending on the download conditions imposed, I'd say that's a strong case for a snailmail chain letter containg a couple of CD's.
Who's the one with no bandwidth cap who's going to start the ball rolling? B)

800mb's just for a demo!!! lol
And once apon a time fs fitted on a flopy disc lol
It wouldnt e to bad to download if you use a download manager were you can just do it one night ,stop it and restart it the next, by the end of a week worth of doing that you should have it.

I have to say, even I'm not a big enough FS addict to download an 800mb demo! Whoever gets to play if first, make sure to post your opinion here ASAP!

If any of you pilots want a copy and live in the South Island I would be happy to copy off, I have uncapped broadband, only take an hour to download.
Perhaps you could send a stamp addressed envelope, with copule of CD's
or anybody have another idea.
Sorry about bad link and beginning of the thread, need to read the rules better.

there was a Lord of the Rings demo that was 2GB
i remember i once bought PC gaming world with a free CD, proclaiming "Mammoth 52MB demo!".
and before that, there was simply shareware- where you'd order demos on floppy disks (by mail) and they sent them to you.
maybe PC World will put it on their DVD next time around.

Is the demo limited to flights around a single state in the US or something?
I don't ever remember there being a fs2004 demo...

Hmm, I think I won't even bother and maybe do a flight on old FS2004 instead

At the moment I'm downloading a 1GB Xbox 360 demo of Dead Rising, so I guess this is becoming the new standard:)
The concensus is that FSX will be shipped on 2 DVDs, so even if they're single-layer, you could be looking at around 8GB -- to get it down to a 1 GB demo means leaving out an awful lot. Even if it allows flying throughout the world I don't think you'd get a good impression of what NZ will be like on release.
It is a great marketing plan though. To gain the new customers they are after would require a media frenzy from now until release, as they really have their work cut out convincing a whole new 'generation' to try something completely different from what normally gets gamers excited.
Personally I'm less excited about this version than previous undates, simply because I finally have FS9 the way I like it, my aging system has been tweaked to death to give me something I am happy with. I think that it will be some time before I can get the same result from FSX, and frankly I don't have the energy to do all that tweaking over again.
Of course I'll buy it, because I've promised to support the 'current' version of FS.

Er, Gidday!
I wonder if you could extend your kind offer
of August 8th to a JAFA?
I've just installed the RC1 Vista on my No 1
computer and as I have a monthly download
limit of 1Gig, downloading is not practicable.
I'd be happy to send a couple of CD's and a
suitable amount (could you suggest a figure?)
to cover postage, and look forward to a reply
here or email (PM?)
You would gladden the heart of one who lives
North of the Bombay Hills!
Cheers
Ted
