I've trawled the net for a solution to this but to no avail.

Is there a way to disable these framerate-killing seagulls (the ones that leave 30m shadows!!!) around airports - but without losing any other special effects?

Maybe a laser-armed AI chopper on constant hover?

This was a problem with 'Ardmore Experience', but I haven't seen it anywhere else. It seems that the designer incorrectly set the scale to 100, rather than 1, for the seagulls.
It is quite easy to disassemble a FSX placement file, but it would require the FSX SDK to recompile. I'd open the file in something like Whisplacer, delete the giant boxes which represent the birds (or just edit the scale to 1), save as XML and recompile using BglComp.

I have noticed birds around a few other airports as well now, and wonder if anyone has actually had a bird strike. Perhaps a new 'mission' for FSX.....

smooth landings.

I have found those birds quite annoying, they seem to hover right in front of you no matter how fast you are going. Maybe someone should make a bird scaring gun add on like they have at real airports. laugh.gif

I may have posted this before - but I can't find it ... anyway ...

... Is there a way of disabling *only* these wretched seagulls around various NZ airports - without losing other effects? They're killing my framerate, but when I try to lose them, other things tend to disappear too.

Blasted things even fly at night in the pouring rain!!!!

Which airports?

Maybe take a look through the FS X folders and see if you can find any files that may look as if they contain any files that make the seagulls appear.
Otherwise get a shotgun and fire them down tongue.gif

You mean you don't want such great AI traffic to add realism? winkyy.gif
I think the seagulls really are part of the AI system, so have you tried turning AI to zero?
Installing a different FS9 AI package also gets rid of them apparently.
Change your autogen settings to, the animals and stuff seem to only appear on the higher levels from what I've read (advanced animation, etc.)

Apart from that, I recommend seeing if you can get a birdstrike. Sucking a bird through a jet engine seems to tidy them up a bit.

They are placed library objects which are controlled by the scenery complexity slider- But, as mentioned, this will also reduce other scenery items

It may be possible to open the bgl file in something like Whisplacer and delete the gulls from there....or possibly (unsure on this one) create an exclude and reference the GUID of that item (which can be found in the list of default library items stickied at the top of the Scenery sub forum)

By the way, you can search the forum -- look for the 'search' button on the top right navigation bar (depending on your chosen skin, of course.)
Searching for 'seagull' finds your earlier post.
