New year ..new sim ..might have a go at running FSX on my PC... my specs are 2.3ghz AMD DualCore with 2 gig of RAM and a 256mb Nvidea 8800GT card..any thoughts on how FSX would run on this?

Also to keep the boss happy I will need to buy FSX second hand with a max of $40 to $50 ..anyone out there willing to part with their FSX? ..must be at least the Deluxe version.

It should run ok with those specs...just don't judge results by slider position and FPS winkyy.gif

Trademe often has FSX come up too- here is one (Sorry Adamski, you may have some bidding competition) http://www.trademe.co.nz/Gaming/PC-games/S...n-195864050.htm

Just make sure if you're buying it on TradeMe that if it's second hand the previous owner hasn't used up all the installs.

Thanks guys - yeah I am not obssesed by FPS - mines locked at 20 in fs9 anyway. I will let Adamski bid away on that one ...I will wait for another ..missed out on another a week ago as I wasnt at my PC when bidding finished.

So there is a limit on FSX installs - how many?

if there is i wouldnt worry about it, if its anything like windows or microsoft office it gives you a phone number and you just ring that and tell the man in india that you formatted your computer and are reinstalling. In fact last time i rang i talked to a computer, put in the code windows was telling me and got a number back to put in and it was all done and dusted.

I think it's something like 5 installs before you have to contact MS.

should be okay - I have similar specs by the sound of it and my graphics card is still a 7600gt and I can still run okay around the 20 fps or so unless around the big cities
cheers

I have finally installed FSX (only about two years behind) and I am quite pleased with the results:

I was expecting the worse with all the bad rep it gets but FPS is not bad at all (even with some sliders really cranked up) particularly when flying non complicated (ie Carenado a/c, default) around the countryside and smaller towns - this suits me as thats the sort of flying I like (it would be a different storey with a complicated airliner flying into a major airport) and I have yet to install SP1 & 2... so looking at further tweaking over the next week or so and may be an add on or two (Realair Spitfire looks appealing)..

I am liking the detail of Godzone Marlborough (with the sliders in the appropriate position) over the FS9 version ...also the detail of some of the default aircraft .....

FSX certainly appeals as far as scenery goes (wish there were more) looks great for Helicopter and gliding flying...and the FDE seems a lot better for the default.

Bad points so far..some issues installing addon aircraft, don't they know how to spell Whenuapai!, ATC seems weird, whats with the music in the a/c preview screen and the brown ! .........hopefully that can be blown away later this year.....

This does not mean I am abandoning FS9 as I have way too many fantastic addons for FS9.

Good stuff.

If you have a multicore machine then updating to the service packs should make a very significant difference.

All of the photoreal and mesh scenery can of course be used in FSX too.....youll only get problems with the other objects.

..and yeah I noticed the Whenuapai error too (something like whenu-a-pau-pi or something)

Im just looking at a new multi core box at the moment....hmmm dual core or quad?

Remember when you install service pack ,,paint installed on aircraft will disapare to default again ,so its best install sp1 sp2 before setting everything up fully ,, you will get a boost in performance by far to the default install as thats where all the probs and bad said about it was from ...
