ohmy.gif Further to my posting re Graphics Cards today, thought I would raise the problem I have been having of late.
Maybe someone has or can advise where to start with this one!
Start flying and definition is crystal clear with great resolution/definition and with fps set at 30 - then within
90 seconds to 2 minutes, the fps drops to 2 or 3 for approx 10 seconds, jumps back to 30 fps and my picture
has completely lost all definition and is blurred to hell................... and stays that way until you stop the flight.
I shut down the flight and when I start again the same happens!!!!
I have also experimented with numerous graphics settings but still no change.
My system is:
Gigabyte high end motherboard
Intel Core Dual 6600CPU
8800GTS within 512 on board
4 gig ram
High end Power Supply
22" Viewsonic flat screen
My limited experience indicates it could be the graphics card failing but
any thoughts would be much appreciated..........

Where abouts are you flying in the sim? Any add-on scenery for that area?

dry.gif In this case flying over Germany in default scenery with no addons - but happens everywhere whether default scenery or addons..........
Would put example picks in posting but am trying to work out the easy way to do this!!!!!

does this kind of thing (i.e. reduced performance after a short time) happen in all games or just FSX? If it happens in all games then I would suggest it is the card (is the fan working? Perhaps it is overheating) or possibly the powersupply (what is it rated at)....if it is only in FSX then usually addon senery or changes to any cfg files could be the issue.......Do you run unlimited frames or have you set a cap? Setting a FPS cap will help reduce blurries

Is the 'blurriness' ocurring for all textures? (i.e. cockpit textures + terrain textures) or just terrain textures?

I sometimes get terrain blurriness if I switch to a tower view when flying at a great distance from that tower- The sim furiously tries to load the tiles for the area around the tower and dumps the tiles around your aircraft....then when you go back to your aircraft it has to load all the tiles around your aircraft again.

Thanks Timmo,
The system is dedicated to FSX with no other games..........
Same thing happened last night in Orbx and even in NZ default scenery!!!
Yes both Fans are working and my power supply is a Sea Sonic model SS 550 HT/80 PLUS
Frame rates are locked at 30fps and no blurriness ocurring in Cockpit views or any aircraft (Jets or props)
Hopefully the photos below (if I did it right) will show what is happening and note the frame rates...............

This shot is into 60 to 90 seconds of flying (a loaded flight)

Then frame rates drop - not 3.5 and you can see that start of the problem

Frame rate has gone back up (within 5 to 10 seconds)

and I can't get any better than this........................

Hey barryington, it looks like there is a bottle neck somewhere, it would seem at first glance that the system is being overloaded and then catching up as it were, do you have your frame rate limited or do you have unlimited frames, if you have limited them, might i suggest that you unlimit them, and see if that helps, also are you flying default aircraft?? hope that is a little help

Frame rates limited to 30 so will try unlimited. Also flying addon aircraft 95% of the time...............
Will try your suggestions and thanks

If it's any consolation, I get this very frequently in FSX. No problems with other games. Sometimes, just making any sort of a GFX settings change (in FSX) forces some cache or other to be rebuilt and it's fine again ... for a while.

I found that making it unlimited actually made things worse. However - going the other way - throttling it back to 10 fps helped a lot - and the screen updates weren't half as bad as you might think. Try it as an experiment.

hey, for me i found it went the other way, i found the limiting the frame rates reduced the performance, and increased the stutters and bluries, whereas unlimiting the frame rate increased the frames, elimited the stutters and banished the bluries too,

i did just think of something, if you have a quad core PC try using only three out of four cores, it seems to help me as well, i have posted anouther thread about that Here

Which grapics driver version are you using? I am using the 180.48 Nividia drivers with an 8800gt 512 mb card. Had some problems with other drivers, these seem stable and work fine.

i am using the 182.06 drivers, i am running a 9600gt with 1gb of ram, these have fixed alot of the shimmering you used to get with DX10 preview enabled in FSX

Try running it in dx9 instead of dx10, unless you already tried that. I would also try an earlier video driver.

surrender.gif Thanks everybody for your feedback and suggestions....................
I have tried numerous (too many to mention) FSX setting changes, Nvidia global settings, different drivers (now on 178.24), disabling addon scenery etc., etc., etc., - you name it and I have probably done it.
Am trying a friends 8800gts card in the morning to see if that makes any difference - if not then at least I have isolated that it is not the card. Otherwise it appears to be a
complete new install of FSX - which raises another question...............
does FSX give you any options to save settings and/or addon scenery etc. considering it has already been installed before - or do you lose the lot?
If anybody has the answer would appreciate a reply?
Many thanks again..................
