what do you recomend for my scenery setup

An area to discuss scenery addons for virtual NZ

Postby Jimmy » Wed Aug 30, 2006 4:41 pm

Hello

I'v neer realy had much addon scenery in my sim (performnce reasons) but now iv got the system for the job what is the best sceneries to have?

I'm sure you all have many differant set ups of scenery so if you say what you use and if its good or not so good for you it would be very be helpful :P as I don't wan't to be downloading hours of stuff just to find they all look like an arcade game. I am looking for scenery from the freeware side of things first but please recomend some payware too cos I'm going to start buying payware once iv upgraded my pc :D

So far iv got the redbaron 75m mesh and voz 1.1 and Ian's NZCH installed.
There seems to be a problem with NZCH, I get a building crash whenevr I get close to a gate :o
I plan to get all the sceney that http://nzscenery.com/ has too offer so that of course includes the canterbury christchurch and NZCh scenery so I know what ill be getting for that area.

I'm mainly looking for suggestions for what to use around the rest of New Zealand (the rest meaning not christchurch :) ) like at NZWN and NZAA etc..
and I would also like to have good aussie scenery for the airports there like yssy ymml ybbn etc etc

Oh and of course if anyone knows of good photoreal scenery please tell me , I love photoreal :P

Thanks a heap :)
James

P.S: If possible please post a link and/or screenie of scenery you like, thanks.
Jimmy

Well the mesh is a great start, make sure you get the landclass file from RBE as well.

The first payware I would then reccomend is the RBE topo. Sorts a lot of issues for the whole country. Shortly after that get Robin's excellent RealNZ sceneries.

Freeware wise I don't have much installed - just get anything of Robin's that he's redone for the new mesh's. Some of the airports out there are not too bad either, although some are pretty hard on the fps. Bit of a case of trial and error as to what you like and what works on your PC :)

Download some of the free "Old Godzone" photoreal scenery from avsim (Taranaki, Turangi etc)

Also, try setting your sim to winter, snowing and fly around the Southern Alps- this is a lot of fun even with the 75m mesh.

A must have is Christian Stock's landclass file, much better than anything VOZ has to offer for NZ in my opinion ;)

I agree with Trolly if you are on a budget and can only afford the Topo. Otherwise get the complete 20m&Topo&landclass for $105 from Geographx. While it seems alot it is well worth it,you wont be dissapointed or ever look back, That and VOZ together and you'll be as happy as a pig in the proverbial!

Go to www.avsim.com and search for 'Auckland', download Ravern's Auckland airport and city, as well as the fix.

www.flightsim.co.nz's scenery section can be good as well, especially their NZQN and NZMC. ;)

I'd recommend any of Robins "Real NZ" packages. I have his Wgtn on pre order and can't wait. I have a low end system but don't seem to have any problems with them working.

Of course more grunt would be better but with your new upgrade it won't be a problem anyway.

Robin's website has a good list of add-ons you could use. I haven't tried them all - yet.

Some of the others are also good - Peter Lohrs "Mt Cook" is great.
Testers are born to fiddle. What does this button do? Oh! Never mind.....
