Adding on airports etc

An area to discuss scenery addons for virtual NZ

Postby Syncop8r » Fri Feb 01, 2008 12:06 pm

Hi, just wondering if anyone can point me towards some tutorials for adding on airports etc.
I managed to get the free Red Baron mesh and textures on ok a while ago and have just downloaded some airports. I started throwing files around and now Wigram has about 20 runways.
I see there are Scenery and Texture folders for each location but in FS there are also Texture folders in the Scenery Folder.

So I don't know what I'm doing!

Haven't seen that one before...lol

Basically, you will just need to install the file into your FS\Addon Scenery folder.

For example, you will have a folder called 'Wigram' or whatever it is. Within that, will have a folder 'scenery' and 'texture.' Copy the main folder 'Wigram,' and paste it straight into the Addon Scenery folder. Leave everything else as it is.

Then you'll need to activate it through FS. Once you have opened FS, click the button for 'scenery library' (or something like that, it's the bottom left link inside FS), and then 'Add Area.' Navigate to the Addon Scenery folder, and highlight (single click) the folder 'Wigram,' and then okay it. Make sure that it appears above the Red Baron Mesh, and then restart FS.

Load up at NZWG, and all should be working fine. Hope this helps :)

Generally there would be a readme file with the download that tells you how to install it. Was this not the case?

Thanks for the info, I'll go through it tonight. I was copying files into FS's "Scenery" folder... D'oh!

The 'readme's all seem to say "install as you would normally" which isn't much help to a noob.

Ah okay I see now...

But yeah, generally each scenery will go into it's own folder; not the scenery/texture folder of FS. That scenery folder is generally reserved for AFCAD files etc ;)

Thanks guys, I did it properly and it all works fine. Some of the textures are a bit funny tho. Like Wellington is very brown. And the Kaikoura runway is in the surf. And there are paddocks out to sea off Hokitika.
Oh well, beggars can't be choosers!
