I can recall that someone was working on NZQN, I just can't track down any details. From memory, it might have been designed to fit into my Southern Lakes scenery, so it might have worked with default. I've done a search of email etc, but I have no idea who this was...
Speaking of other base packages, I fired up Prepar3d to have a look at Queenstown this morning (I couldn't remember if the person who contacted me about their airport had actually sent me anything), and discovered that I've removed the subscription photoscenery for some reason -- I must say that VLC does a fantastic job of this area, I'd forgotten how nice it really was/is. These days I have a few addons to improve things, such as FTX HD Trees, but most of it was just VLC in Prepar3d v4, and it was stunning!
Hopefully we'll see a bit more interest in developing for NZ when the 'big 3' are completed, but I doubt that there will be anything, freeware or payware, developed for use with the default sim. It would be interesting to figure out how many use each base scenery, but I suspect that over time it will become almost completely FTX. In which case there is their NZQN, luckily.
