Looking forward to buzzing around the north in my bell222 instead of playing FPS games ,I went over to FTX and logged in to see some new shots which was worth the effort of resending my password and found photoreal areas included some of Aucklandcity and Ruapehu ,i may just have to retire and enjoy flying winkyy.gif

Looks like the big Novotel is there. Hard to tell the detail from those shots but definatley an upgrade to the default.

Yes it will be Ian, Am hopeing like hell that Hamiltron and Taupo somehow slot in there, Mikes airports are damn fine addons and probably get the most use out of any for me. Probably cos I'm a central NIslander but hey.

No way is NZAA ever that green! That mud flats in the surrounding Manukau harbour look really realistic if they're not photoreal however.

I'm also looking forward to Mike's rendition.

The Manukau is photoreal -- see the first shot in their 'photoreal' thread.

I've said before that locals should keep away from their home base when using NZSI/NZNI, as that's when you'll notice the super-green. Stick to areas you don't know well -- in fact North Islanders should fly in the South Island only, and vice versa.

Hmm I reckon NZSI is way too green (especially Central Otago) but seems about right for much of the North Island...although that is going off the screen shots

Its funny you bring that up Robin, it reminds me of when we released PNW and the locals were just not ready too see all the cutblocks in the forest, in fact some flatly refused to believe their own country even looked like...that, instead calling it an 'error' on our behalf, I guess what I mean is sometimes when you live in a place all your life you can become sheltered towards how it looks, anyhow each to their own santa_cool.gif

Cheers
Tim

Yes, I know that it is possible to get a skewed view of your own neighbourhood, but I also know all the tricks which are used to greenify NZ. For twenty years I made NZ scenic calendars, so I know exactly what you need to do to make NZ's photo-image look as green as the perception. The most common client request was always 'can you make that more green?'

But I think that the issue is more to do with the method used to build seasonal textures. I've said before, NZSI's summers textures are beautiful, but they really represent NZ at its greenest -- pumping up the green for other seasons is just plain wrong.

I don't expect Orbx to get it all spot-on, I know that limited textures need to represent a lot of different areas, but trying to tell me that the view out my window is really green doesn't make sense -- at any time of the year.
