For years I have had Robin's Wanaka photo real scenery which shows only summer textures. Recently I purchased the Real NZ Scenery for Wanaka and other NZ sites. Quite a while ago I also installed Christian Stock's landclass for NZ, but Wanaka always appeared in photo real summer. I would like to remove the summer only appearance and have all the seasonal textures apply. But I don't know what files to remove. I have already removed the Wanaka2 scenery and replaced that with the Real NZ one. But Wanaka always appears textured in the summer colors.

I saw a thread where the summer textures for Queenstown could be removed by deleting the bgl NZQN_30x40_su, but there is no similar file for Wanaka.

Would someone please tell me how to do it.

With much appreciation,

Jim D.

The Real NZ Wanaka photo scenery is summer only, but designed to display all year. The only way I can think of to see winter is to deactivate the photo scenery. How you'd do this depends on what version of FS you use.

Thanks for the reply Robin;
I'm using FS9 and I have not only deactivated the scenery, I removed it as well, or attempted to remove it. I'll recheck the list in the scenery library to be sure. But, i still believe that the original Wanaka 2 scenery is not active. I'll let you know.

I looked in all scenery locations and the only Wanaka scenery is the RealNZ types. To clarify,the scenery I have is your payware NZ collection for 2004. Does this mean that Wanaka will display only the summer textures? How can I get Christian's land class to display for Wanaka? I gueass I could put that ahead of the RNZ scenery in the scenery library and see what happens.

Is there no other season textures for Wanaka? Am I stuck with Summer only?

Normally there are no winter aerials for New Zealand -- it is just not suitable for aerial photography. In most areas this doesn't matter that much, as there is very little seasonal variation anyway. For area like Wanaka, it does present a problem, though.
The Tekapo aerial included some snow already, so it was relatively easy to paint more snow and call it winter. However the Wanaka image is decidedly summery, and was not able to be winterised. If you wish, you can disable the photo scenery to fly in other seasons. Just rename the F40.bgl, G40.bgl and G41.bgl files with a .bak extension to deactivate them. The airport will remain, but on top of the default, so there may be some topo issues.

I'l give it a shot Robin and see if I can live with it. When my wife were in Queenstown several years ago, it was during your winter and the scenery was just fantastic. We had two beautiful days with sunshine, majestic clouds, and the surrounding mountains were covered with snow. In fact, the evening that we arrived it was raining and we thought that our visit would be ruined. Next morning we woke up to what I described above. Queenstown is very high, if not the highest, on my list of my favorite cities. I would hope that all seasons could be implemented for Wanaka as it is for the rest of NZ.

Robin,
I did what you suggested in renaming the bgl's. However, nothing changed. Scenery remained the same. FS9 did not even update the scenery on startup as it would normally do.
