NZFF

HI I am wondering if anybody has tackled the missing NZ gps approaches in fsx yet . I am particularly looking looking for ohakea + palmerston north.Funnily enough Wangnaui has the gps approaches in the FSX gps database Quite a few nz airfields are now out of date in terms of approaches . I am using the mindstar aviation garmin software which looks at the fsx gps database. The short term fix seems to be using ADE FSX Approach editor . I have never used this package before . Has anybody had any success with it ???.

Yes I use it although for FS9. I suspect that it works in the same manner for FSX. ADE sure takes all the hard work out of manual xml construction. It is very good and quite intuitive although it does have one or two minors issues that I have discovered but are not a biggy.
Some approaches are difficult to code and require the addition of a few extra fixes that you would not normally find shown on an approach plate - this is just a limitation of Flt sim and is required in order to make the aircraft track appropriately.
It is really good to be able to see the legs appear on screen, as they would in the GPS, as you add each leg. Compiling is really simple too.....just one mouse click.

Interesting!! I didn't know you could do that for FS9/FSX!!

At the moment I use the ISG1 avionics suite, which allows users to edit the routes, fixes, SIDS, STARS and approaches - and very easily I might add. It allows you to more accurately follow real world navigation techniques and is more realistic the the default GPS/flight planning system. You can also add it to ANY aircraft in your hangar, and they have different gauges and displays to suit a wide variety of aircraft. There's also a new FSX avionics suite being developed by Aerosoft Australia - although that will be based solely on B737 navigation systems...........

The XML code (As always) looks a little more time consuming to work with, but I'd be willing to have a look - AFE will certainly make things easier. I think it would be a great idea to have all the GNSS/RNAV fixes, SIDS, STARS and approaches programmed into the default GPS. Keeping them up to date with the AIRAC cycles could be a daunting task, but if we were to get a team of guys working together it would make things easier......... I might have a look at it over the coming weeks.............

Unfortunately the default GPS is not capable of SID's or STAR's just approaches with or without transitions. ADE will just assist in creating or editing approaches.

Well thats a shame!! Guess I'll stick with what I've got then!! SID's and STAR's (As well as RNAV) are a must have for online flying with VATNZ, which is where my passion lies!!

They are not essential for flying online with VATNZ. Not all NZ aircraft are RNAV capable and many SID's and STARs can still be flown with raw data (VOR etc).
Still an FMC with a good up-datable database does make it easier.

I guess I should have qualified my reply!! RNAV is a must have for me...... as I tend to only fly the 'big toys' online. In order to mirror realworld procedures I need RNAV capability. I agree with your thoughts though - and I've been caught out a couple of times by database changes and have had to fly a few departures with (god forbid) the steam driven gauges!!
