Hi guys,

I can see, that a lot of you talented scenery builders create fantastic float bases around Taupo, Picton, etc. I'd like to ask your advice about which software to use to place those objects in the FSX world. I dont' want to create AFCADS or start points, just have those piers placed around Porirua and Titahi Bay, slew my float planes there, and save the flight.

Any thoughts?

Sketchup or Gmax.

I use Instant Scenery 2 (payware much easier) to place my objects in FSX. There are others like Whisplacer, ADE etc Freeware.

If you have the deluxe version of FSX which contains the sdk tools when installed from disc there is a default object placement tool which comes with it that i use ,for me its been the most simple option of placing objects ,i have answered this before in this topic here and some instructions on how its installed and activated .http://nzff.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=...bject+placement

if you would like to place anything from my scenerys ie floatplane base here is the guid you will need 7D0E82354E6870C1D73F09B64DEFE6C1 FLOATBASE
11B868CC40C648AC33B39298806CCA4A Helipad which both start with 0 on the list of objects that you will be able to place
once placement tool is working you start the object placement tool via the FSX alt/menu in game and you will see a box pop up and the word action in a drop menu ,click that and on the drop down select the scenery option then the drop down on below that has the guid codes and objects that you will be able to flick through real time view and add to your scenery .
once you have placed the objects click mission tab at the top left and save scenery tab ,this saves a XML doco which you will need to drop on the BGL.exe file that is found in the sdk
,place the bgl file it creates from the xml into the scenery folder in addon scenery load up where you placed them and they should be there etc ..

I'm not sure if there is anyone interested but I'll create the Porirua Harbour and Nelson Lakes tiers with some other objects, and I'm happy to share them. I'll send some screenshots later.

I'm progressing with my float base sceneries, however I'm really struggling with making functional water ramps.... Do you guys (Robin, Mike and the other scenery gurus) have any experience with them? I've been browsing the web for days now, looking for a tutorial...no luck.

That's the one. I worked out how to make a slope on the ground so that taxiing out of the water is smooth. I just want to make some wooden ramps ("hardened" object?) that could be used for the same purpose.

Yup you have to make the object ramp then harden it so the planes can roll up it ,this would need some modeling and exporting knowledge,i cant promise but ill try knock you up a pack of objects so you can complete your project ,if you have some photo links to ramps that you want built just so i can get a good idea of whats needed .

Thanks very much Mike, I really apriciate your willingness. I'll flick you a PM with the pictures of those ramps, but first I finish up the ground polygon part with SBuilder.

No prob just flick them through before the 11th as im away for the week following in Auckland .
