Just downloaded ADE and am having a muck around trying to figure it out, playing with the NZQN afcad for the next leg of my tour.

Question is- I've taken a screenshot of NZQN from Google Maps to model all the taxiways off- but can I somehow get it to show up in FSX as a photoreal layer? Or is that a whole different program?

Cheers.

you need sbuilder for that

Oh ok- where would one find this and how steep is the learning curve?

Ok, and Q #3, is it possible to get rid of the roads that are underlying my apron and taxiways? I tried building an exclude but that didn't seem to work. I think they're part of VLC?

Oh, and how come no airliner traffic is at the terminal? I made the parking spaces all 'Gate Medium'...? All the GNZLAP sits on the grass like I want it to however.

I think it's Exclude General / Roads in ADE to get rid of the roads.

Q3: Sbuilder can do that

Q4: is there any ailine traffic supposed to be at the airport?

You'll need an exclude to get rid of the roads (they are VLC) but there are two types in ADE- Draw a ground polygon and choose the correct tag to exclude the roads (either all or the specific guid)

AI traffic also won't show unless you have all taxi nodes that are connected with the runway with a hold short node (so planes can't 'sneak past')
Also, just some tips from doing similar things- It is often easier to align the image (first) to the existing airport data than it is to move the existing data to the fit image, especially since coordinates from Google Earth are somewhat simplified for performance reasons. There are controls which allow you to fine tune the placement of the image after geo-locating it. I started by taking a snapshot from GE, then getting the coordinates using a placemark of the top-left and bottom-right and inputting those into ADE to get the image in around the right spot. T-calcX is another useful tool to check coordinates in-sim in order to avoid conflicts....it's a bit of a juggle to get everything lining up 'correctly' (i.e. you may need to fudge things a bit to fit)

Feel free to use the VLC object library too smile.gif

Thanks for the tip Tim (and welcome back)- adding the holding points got the jets to the terminal.

I've tried drawing the ground poly to exclude the roads- first I tried general - roads, but it did nothing. Next I went for 'everything' and it looked like it removed the area flatten and made the airport terrain all bumpy. I've also got a landclass poly drawn around the airport to make it look cleaner- photoreal with Sbuilder looks way too out of my league.

Something else that confused me was the two files that appeared when I compiled it 'NZQN_ADEX_AU' and 'NZQN_ADEX_AU_CVX'. Do I need both .bgl's?

I've uploaded my attempt thus far here in .ad2 format. If anyone would like to finish the job, feel free too. I won't be continuing my VLC tour till my new copy of REX arrives in the mail from Australia- so no rush. It would nice to have ZQN looking tidy in the sim though smile.gif

Oh and if anyone could bang up the airport ground area photoreal textures pinched from google earth/maps for my personal use- that would be neat too winkyy.gif

FSEarthTiles can do it. http://nzff.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=...hl=fsearthtiles

Yes. The CVX includes all the polys, exludes and flattens.
