Probably not what you wanna hear...
I'd forgotten I even had a YouTube channel. I've just had a look and found a 'watch later' video which has been there for a few years, but I've never been brave enough to watch -- my ex-wife's latest wedding. I can finally watch it without having to be drunk, swearing, or kicking the cat.
I will say, she always made a fine looking bride.
These days I use Youtube a lot, more recently I've been obsessed with 'Deep space' astrophotography, I have lost my telescope sometime in the last 10 years, but I hope to get a nice new system one day. I really need a very different hobby, flightsim turned out to be a poor choice.

There's an App called Skymap which runs on an even very slightly Smart phone.
You point the screen at the sky and it tells you stuff.
For the first time in my life I started to Get It.
People are amazed.
Do try it.

Just to keep the dream alive, I've uploaded a quick video of some Southern Alps flying now that we have the Vulkan renderer -- this is at 120 FPS and ultra settings, but I can run it at 240/High settings...

Point is... with that kind of performance, why would anyone bother with the legacy crap.
What does Vulkan do, exactly?

Well, don't quote me, but my understanding is that Vulkan is a 'better', lower-level way to render 3D graphics, replacing the current OpenGL in Aerofly, and can also replace Direct3D 11. It makes better use of GPUs, and the lower-level aspect makes it less reliant on the OS. " Vulkan offers lower overhead, more direct control over the GPU, and lower CPU usage." -- from Wikipedia:)
I do think it'll be a long time before we get a full-featured FS2, but I know what you mean -- I chose this particular clip because it includes 'flyby mode', which on MSFS-based sims is just a blurry mess normally, FS2 still renders sharp and smooth.
Personally I am hoping that a new renderer in Prepar3d v5 will give this sort of performance, or at least a good improvement over what we have, but with the added advantage of it being a full-featured 'finished' sim. In the five years or whatever it takes to flesh out FS2, I'll take another look. In the meantime, I'll still use FS2 when I feel the need for speed (cheers, Charl!), but I still put my money on Prepar3d for a while yet.
