This is what happens when you close the forum for a while -- people go away and actually do stuff!

Thoroughly dissatisfied with how my local airfield is represented in FSX, I decided to have a go at making something better. Then I thought it'd be more fun to try and recreate it as it was in its 1945 heyday!

This is how Microsoft would have us believe the airfield is.

Google earth suggests something a little different!

What I've got so far (sorry, no "in sim" pics yet).

I'm struggling to get taxi and runways that look halfway decent. They're concrete. Taxiways are 50ft wide with three strips of concrete running along the length, the joins between sections being offset, brick-like. Runways are 50yds wide, with the same style of construction. FS seems to think concrete comes in prefabricated slabs all oriented towards mecca... Any tips for better concrete?

We decided to do a modern version as well as the historical. Here's a little update ...

Tower view. The Nissen huts are WWII original, and served as bomb fusing huts during the war. Now they are club house and microlight hangar. The big blister hangar is of WWII vintage, but not in its original location.

Inside the big hangar

Fuel pump. Avgas only. The self service sign was only installed RW last week!

Transient parking is on the grass, next to the disused radio mast. The tarmac runway is visible beyond.

Taxying to the active
