See here - is this the answer I wonder to the FSX landclass problem. Not sure whether they should of used a picture of the Waiorou area as its rather desert like anyway!

Hmmm ... interesting! However - if you click through all the comparison screenshots, I'm not entirely convinced that they've "cracked it". They've certainly moved textures around (ie. redefined boundaries) but in some pics, I actually see *more* desert! I could be wrong, but the colour/texture of the desert tile itself looks about the same (to me).

Maybe we should invite these developers to NZ to see how green things really are (usually!!!).

Judging by screenshots of the ORBX stuff (I haven't got any mself) I'd say their treatment of our "green and pleasant land" may be better. I wonder how long we have to wait? winkyy.gif

I think the freeware 75M mesh and Landclass from Red Barent is all you need. Thats a great freeware addon to have. Just some people who want it can't get it yet as they are finding a new home for it.

I have both of those installed (FSX) ... and I have huge masses of desert. Great in all other respects though!

I would buy it like a shot but I'm not holding my breath- FTX USA seems to be next and that has to be a huge project

For areas with very poor default landclass coverage -- such as most of the South Pacific islands -- this looks like good value. The Ouvéa Island screenshot is a lot more realistic than the default, that's for sure.

One thing you need to bear in mind with landclass is that it doesn't change the texture set, and the new FSX textures are really what causes the 'desert' look. The landclass here looks more accurate than the default, but it still calls the default textures. The same applies to Christian's landclass -- it is a higher resolution, but it can't 'fix' the overpoweringly brown textures -- it's only a classification scenery.

What we really need is for someone to go in and change the errant textures to something more NZ-like. You'd really only need to change a couple of textures, and you'd fix the whole country...
