CAC Boomerang by Flight Replicas

Noticed the Flight Replicas stuff is on special (50% off) in the extended FSPilotShop Easter Sale so picked up this CAC Boomerang for a tenner, a decent machine for the price I reckon. Model details are good, a lumpy sounding sound pack, and the cockpit is nice and usable, detailing good if a little flat colour wise. The machine doesnt seem very quick, or super agile, but it sure does look solid smile.gif

Apparently the RNZAF had a couple on loan for awhile, and they flew sorties with our Corsairs in the Pacific towards the end of the war? Some more info here: https://www.airforce.gov.au/raafmuseum/ ... s2/A46.htm

Anyway, here's some screenies I took this arvo at/around Cairns airport...

This is really a goodie, had a lotta fun with this one, very typical of the quality from Flight Replicas

The history with the type during the pacific war, used as the first FAC aircraft, stayed with an Australian detachment at Green Island and in Bougainville.

Saw one of these at Archerfield, the day the Vimy replica arrived. Taxying out, the pilot was almost lying on his back and depending on an 'erk' at each wingtip to keep him on the right track - the fuselage is too fat to hang out one side to see what's ahead. Coming in to land, he produced one of the scariest bounces I have seen, but pulled it out with the throttle and touched down perfectly next time round.

Cool to have seen one IRL, is there one that hits air-shows in Aussie?

There would have been two but one bounced with nasty results a decade plus ... I do believe there is a replacement.

That was in 1994 or 195, just after I moved to Bris-bunn from Port Kembla. It was probably the Zuccoli one I saw. Haven't managed to get to a show since, but the future looks promising:
Quoting: http://www.warbirdsonline.com.au/2013/07/0...rd-restoration/

"Once up on its wheels the Boomerang will be moved to an airfield for the attachment of the outer wings and last stages of assembly prior to a flight in the first half of next year. Greg intends that A46-54 will be permanently based in Queensland – good news indeed for Queensland with the grounding of the Zuccoli Boomerang reproduction (CA-19 A46-205) now in The Museum of Army Flying at Oakey and the sale of Matt Dennings (A46-122) aircraft to Temora in NSW."

Lynette Zuccoli's Boomerang was at the Classic Fighters Marlborough 2001 airshow

This one is in my hangar for family reasons. Had an uncle who flew them in WWII with the RAAF then moved on to spitfires in Burma and Europe. He told me he though they were ok but a bit stodgy, the real thing had one undesirable characteristic, that on slow turns such as onto base and final the rudder would blanket the effects of propeller slipstream and with its short wings and high drag body and heavy you had to be on your toes, the spit by comparison he described as an absolute delight but he really wished they had had FW 190s which were faster and better machines than the spit.

I liked this one and thought the quality of the textures and general visuals good. Not done much simming with it though been too busy with other stuff. Anyway.

Good on you, Dean!
A picture is worth a thousand words, a video is worth... well in this case probably 7,000!
Wish more folk would dip the toe - you don't have to do a "production", a clip of a minute or 2 with no frills can often be a great comment.

Must say your sim is looking great, very fluent too.

Yeah mate, just tryin to follow the lead of you, Rob and Eddy etc smile.gif

You're right the production qualities and/or effort don't have to be super high to get something that's watchable. I thought about adding an intro, some text annotations, a soundtrack etc, but when it comes down to it, all I wanted was a quick demo of the interior/exterior and sound.

Might surprise some to know it doesn't have to cost a lot either. I used to use Adobe Elements, and I know those with deep pockets use Sony Vegas, but you can do a lot with the freebie MovieMaker from microsoft: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-NZ/windows...res/movie-maker

Right, that gives me something to try out virtually this morning winkyy.gif
