Widgeon from Flysimware

Postby emfrat » Mon Apr 25, 2016 11:54 am

Bought this this morning, to go with the Goose. It's quite nice, but I am not at all sure about those roundels :o There is a paintkit, though...http://flysimware.com/website/

'Propliner' is actually short for 'Proper airliner, with big rumbly radials'

I don't have any reference with a RESCUE and what appears to be RAF WWII standard top wing marking , this is bit of a strange one ?

Yep - all five included paints are American, but the USN one has a RAF-type fuselage roundel, with the narrow yellow ring.

The old Widgeon was 1960s NZ icon , post some other screens , the RAF did operate around the Caribbean during WWII , wonder if that could be the reason, I don't recall any with a over sized RESCUE with RAF markings tho.

I have the old Amphibian Airways one in my FS9 Classic, but the paint doesn't work in FSX.
Fixed the roundels by swapping the wing.dds for the one from the civilian paint, but the USN one will need overpainting.

There's even a paddle, in case you land up in that creek :D

An interesting feature on the derelict Widgeon , 44 gallon drums strapped on the engine mounts.

Unfortunately the texturing/shine of this model makes it look very plastic like so it wont be on my shopping list.
A shame as the widgeon (with the Lycomings) was/is one of my favorite aircraft.

So sad to see it in such a derelict state. I have many great memories of these with Tourist Air Travel, SeaBee Air and Mt Cook flying to Great Barrier. A decent model of the G44 is so hard to find, might give this one a try.

Thanks for the memories Marty.

Looking good JK B-) , least you have many regular subjects here that use to rip around New Zealand.

Many thanks JK - I had been checking OZx but then I saw your Flightsim Forum post about having difficulty uploading there.
