Hi guys,

Treated myself to the Majestic Dash 8 Q400 today, but have a few q's regarding flying it and getting used to it.

1) Is there a way to have it start in a "ready for take off/taxi" state? At the moment it is always cold and dark - which I like, but I want to just get used to flying it first.

2) Do you find it yaws/rolls to the left ALOT on take off? I know this is common in aircraft ("right rudder!!!" - I can hear my Alpha 160 instructor tongue.gif). But do you have to trim some right rudder and aileron in before take off or is something wrong on mine?

3) Where is the "Nose Steering On/Off" button? Can't find it and my checklist is telling me to!

4) The autopilot...i'm used to Boeing's and just can't figure it out. Any help would be appreciated with it!

1, i dont think there is a quick start even changing ac mid flight revert to cold start
2, yep
3, the nose steering is the joystick movements for left and right when its under 40 or 60 knts then it reverts to rudder axis
4, you have to watch the various utube videos out there to work it out, its quicker and easier than trying to explain it

in short watching the utube vids out there help a lot

Totally agree with you Jeansy.
Starting the Q400 is really easy peasy and there are really good utube vids that answer your concerns/questions.
One thing I have found is make sure you use the anti ice functions.

Jeez you guys are such a tease ... I love the button pushing real McCoy start ups and the no short cut, but I'll wait for the more New Zealand orintated 300 to come out.

Cheers guys, just flew a nice short flight from Invercargill to Dunedin and it went very smoothly! All bar the landing....not so smooth. I find the Q400 horrid at low speeds..?? Yaws like buggery to the left in nil wind!!

This aircraft can be saved in any configuration you want -- engines running and AP programmed, or any airport. Also to practice landings -save the flight 10 miles out and use that as a self test. Because it uses its own software (developed by NASA), outside of FSX it uses the same FR as the Microsoft Microlight.

The aircraft loads in a ready to start state, so all the checks have been completed apart from the start up procedures. Just run through that, then save the flight. It's really an addon ducted towards serious simmers, so it enforces knowing those procedures and flows.

This was given to me as an easy start...>
Overhead panel. set both eng. switches to "normal". left click adjacent start switch to the left. push engine start. after 30secs repeat after clicking start switch to the right. Sorted. You then get the pleasure of hearing the engines spool up everytime you fly.

Now... if someone could give me an easy way to use the auto pilot I would be much obliged and I can go off and fly for Eastern Virtual. I come from a ctrl+E style of simming and then working out the tricky bits later. To which end I have fitted a default gps in the Majestic (sacrilege, I know), but the Majestic in it's glory won't follow my usual Saitek or Simtouch auto pilot. If there is a simple route to using this, I would appreciate it.

I see there are quite a few updates for this aircraft.
Where would be the best place to buy/download it so the updates would be available?

Most vendors are pretty good about updating their products within a day or so of a developer releasing an update/patch. I personally try to use Simmarket for most of my purchases, and have never had any problems.

TBH it's not any one thing or things in particular, it's just one of those cases where there's something about it that just makes me not like it and it's not specific enough to puta finger on it.

Would I be right in assuming it's the best fsx tubo prop of that size available atm.
Size & also capable of that speed. They are stating 360 knots cruise.

Yeah there's nothing that touches it at the moment in that size/capacity. The Flight1 ATR is good but showing its age now in comparison and isn't a native FSX model.
There is the McPhat ATR for X-Plane if you have that, and there's an ATR and Saab340 on the way from Razbam.

Ok so a few days ago, we showed some images of the failure station and a new addition to the 2D panel.
I forgot to add one other tid bit that is being tested and so far appears to be working quite well.
Many simmers who do not always have the time or are not interested in going through a bunch of checks may appreciate this.

I have just purchased the Razbam Metroliner and I'm not really that keen on it to be honest. The panel is very nice, as is the exterior, but it has some really annoying issues.
The EHSI is hideous and the subject of a few complaints on various forums. It doesn't even have a proper HSI style course bar but a horrible digital representation of the old traditional ILS indications...yuk!
The EHSI control panel (that has the heading and course knobs and are used all the time) is located down the lower left (Capt) and right (F/O) sides of the panel. This requires panning onto it to alter the knobs and means that nothing can be seen outside whilst making adjustments. Really inconvenient and not good at all when hand flying. Might be OK in the real world but not that flash in the virtual one. I have suggested to RAZBAM that they consider a EHSI controller pop up in a future service pack....I'm sure they'll listen rolleyes.gif
Visibility is a ##### with the wiper and centre posts in the way. Probably an issue in the real world too but very limiting in our semi fixed one dimensional world. Track IR may help but you will be in for a sore neck by the end of the flight! Also my main panel pop up doesn't seem to work. I just get a horizontal black rectangle at the base of the screen.
So all in all first impressions are not that good. It was a toss up between the Carenado B1900 or this and I think the coin duped me.

EDIT. In fact the more I fly it the less I like it. This one is parked with less than an hour on the meter. AUS $26.88 down the drain. I guess there is a reason why there is not many reviews available for it.
