For those interested a freeware via the CalClassic guys have released an FSX F27 with a virtual cockpit. There were only two liveries provided, Aloha Airline and TAA (Trans Australian Airlines) which in a way made my day because it completes my TAA type fleet. I have given the bird a run and it is pretty damn good. The cockpit graphics are a little dodgy here and there but I am sure some enterprising individual will eventually come up with a clean up. The exterior lights are a bit out of whack but nothing that can not be fixed with a little fiddling with the config file and shockwave lights. As far as I am aware it is being hosted by FlightSim.Com (FSX new files). This aeroplane is well overdue in FSX world and I am sure will get improvements as time goes by.

Anyway here are a few screenshots to entice any Fokker fans out there:

Oh there is no DME readout and if you want the RR Dart sound it is best to get that from the freeware YAMC-11 package that is available on the net. Happy flying.

Indeed it is an old Mike Stone model but it has been brought into modern life ala FSX pretty well. I found a mod and fix for the lights on FlightSim.com the file is msF27.zip. Alas I also tried a few older repaints for the Mike Stone F27-200 but they did not work, some of the textures are out of alignment with this version or model, namely on the Ansett colours the windows are all in the wrong place and the wheels, prop and glass textures would need redoing, but given the major alignment issue not sure if others would work. This is especially so since there is also a stewardess and air-stairs animation in this version and they do not take to the older textures at all. Ah well we shall see what comes up now I am sure there are heaps of F27 fans out there. It would be nice to have one in Kiwi colours.

Anyway have a new toy to play with until JF get the DC-8 sorted!

Tom Gibson of CC has made a layered texture set which caters for the modified tail and fuselage.

Thanks for that Mike, it would dang interesting to get the source files form Mike Stone and start tinkering and rebuild it the very same way Manfred Jahn and team did to the default DC-3 .

It will be interesting to see how this one progresses. The VC as it appears now is very basic and frankly not something that I would use. It would be great to get something like the Fraser Mckay panel but in a VC as well as 2D.

Was my last F27 flight and happened to be out off Wigram, we would require the source file to rebuild the model , fact is is Mike walked away like many others simply people bagged him with in-accurate detail, .. fact he built a series of models that are superb for your AI traffic .. and really had people going, he simply walked away from it due to peoples complaints and it was all freeware! ... He would be another to be more than welcomed back - after all he was an aircraft engineer.

Ian, that is essentially what happened here, Tom had that permission, and Bernie built on that. This is the same model I posted about, a few weeks back. There is a 10-page thread about it on the CalClassic forum.

Perhaps of interest to F27 fans, an ongoing thread at SOH -Fokker/Fairchild 27 FSX native. Started by member 'Bjoern', it too appears to originate with the 'CalClassic' model.

Hey Dave been following it, think 'Bjoern' may have got the source to his credit from Mike Stone making it the best freeware out there.
