OK let's vote now.
Anyone who mentioned the Boeing 737 is not eligible to vote in this poll.
The winner...well we'll see what Trolly says, maybe it could be the subject of a monthly screenshot competition.

Heh.
I did trawl through those string 'n wire aeroplanes and came up with a Bleriot.
But it actually looks like a hatstand. :P and so do all the rest.
The Moth has a swept wing and is less hatstandish.

It's not that I don't like it - I do, it's absolutely fit for purpose, and the world's most successful airliner.
But it's not beautiful
It has a mean, pinched face - the original looked like a dumpling, and all the stretches over the years just made it look gawky.
When turbofans came out, they should've built a new aircarft, but no! they squashed the nacelles flat to fit the stubby little main gear (which doesn't even retract properly btw) and gave it the look of a Sumo wrestler.
Remember the 707 has the same front end and cross-section, and is a thing of beauty becasuse of its proportions.

out of those the spitfire - the silhouette the thing makes in the sky...but it's not just that but the beatiful way it was contsructed, the sound of the merlin (griffen was also nice) and of course what it means to this country (UK) as a symbol and just the name 'supermarine spitfire' - nice. The same can also be said of the VC10 for shape and quality...concorde maybe, it's the numbers that get you thinking. It's graceful from some angles and others not in my opinion. i also think the vought cutlass f7u-3m was a fantastic looker even if it was sh*t. the spitfire was beatiful all over really...

How many aircrafts have ever won the British Design Award???

I only know one. And that the Concorde. A masterpiece of design and technology. It's still many years ahead compared to the traditional jets.

But I must at the same time say that the Spitfire also is a masterpiece. But I don't think you can compare military aircrafts with commercial aircrafts. The only comparing is that they can fly.

The Concorde is build for speed. The spitfire is build for air battles. The Concorde can not turn very quickly. The Spitfire can turn very quickly. The Concorde is about 30 years younger then the Spitfire. But both aircrafts have been very important to the world-of-flying. Concorde as the fastest commerciel jet ever. The Spitfire because they was in the air fighting against the Messerschmitt's during WW2 (and won).

 Well I guess us young'en's have a different sense of taste to the rest of you, and I wasn't being entirely truthfull. If I could vote, I'd say the spitty should win- just love those curves. I only mentioned the 737 as my other choices had been already posted on the list- but I still love its sleek design. Each to ones own I guess.

And how about this- the winner of this poll can be made into the screenie theme for next month. Whatever gets picked can be used as a theme. Good idea?

I wish I had mentioned the 737, with that 4 engined ugly thing at the top, how can I take this poll seriously?

Standards have dropped dramatically if an Airbus is considered beautiful, yet a 737 is 'fit for purpose'. Good joke Charl, your a very funny man.

Beauty indeed is in the eye of the beholder, almost every aircraft can look great from at least one angle. :D

not beautiful, but it's a real achievement that airbus were able to make both a manatee and a pencil fly
