With all the excitement around the great RNZAF helicopter addons, I'm suprised no one has mentioned the mighty Sioux.

The NZDF started buying Sioux helicopters back in 1965 and even then they were an older design - the prototype flying twenty years earlier in 1945. 3 Squadron amazingly still have five immaculate examples of these aircraft in service and are used for pilot conversion training before they move on to Iroquois. A Sioux for FS9 is available on flightsim.com by Jean-Marie Mermaz. You need to download both BELL47SK.ZIP - an FS2002 aircraft - and the update bell4704.zip - which changes everything.

I like this aircraft even though my maintaining a hover in any FS helicopter in an area smaller than a town is an achievement. There are animations galore. Move the cyclic and collective controls in any combination and watch how their interaction affects the movement of the actuators and mechinism attached to the main rotors.

There are no RNZAF repaints at the moment - the picture is a rough as guts five minute job I did a while ago, and the 2D panel shows a view of the pilots wooly jersey and courdoroy trousers which doesn't exactly match a flightsuit. The model has a VC as well but with hardly any instruments - I assume this is close to the real thing, no cross country radio navigation here, I still think it's a funky little helicopter and the model is one of my FS favourites.

Brilliant helicopter - I remember thinking in FS2002: "Boy when I get a computer that can run this thing, it'll be great!"
Now I can, and it is.

Been going strong for over 50 years.
Here seen at Woodburne in company of some of its slightly younger brethren.

This is a NZFF exclusive paint for the Jean-Marie Mermaz Bell 47G.
Still good after all these years, flies in FS2002, FS2004, FSX.
Ten minutes after I uploaded the pic, I noticed a better RNZAF repaint here but looks to be for FS2002.
Ah well, she flies beautifully, and the VC is like a fish bowl so is a great way to view the scenery.[/quote]

Yep its one of my favs too....Ive spent a bit of time getting in working in FSX which it now (mostly) does....just need to spend a bit more time on the gagues. There is an exisiting RNZAF repaint....cant remember where I got it from though.

For a 'old' freeware aircraft I think it has aged REALLY well....I cant fault it even now.

Once again another classic 40's design. After seeing old photos of our New Zealand ones with the floats (sorry, not sure if that's the right jargon) i have tried to find one freeware but as yet no gold.

Love the design, reminds me of M*A*S*H everytime i see one.

The floats version exists - I have it on a HDD somewhere.
I've edited my paint a little and may upload it if Dan doesn't beat me to it.
