FS9 - I'm told it is the best-kept secret for the last year or more.
They also did a Lancaster
The flight model is positively anal - you will go ass over kettle if you attempt a manouevre with fuel in the rear tank, for example.

Mercifully there are several variations, some of which do have elliptical wings.

This aircraft even has some movie fame in the movie about W/Cdr Douglas Bader staring Kennenth More in the 1954 production Reach for the Sky little silly since the bubble top didnt appear till 44 , still a classic tho :D

I lock Framerate so don't really know - I'd say comparable.

Well I got it 2 days ago from the link above, looks like it used to be a Flight1 offering.
If you do bite, be advised: this is not for the timid.
I have never come across an aircraft in FS that is so difficult to fly.
I have been told by one of the designers that the flight model is accurate.
I found it difficult to believe, and still have some reservations about certain aspects.
If you do fly it, come back and look at this clip, then post a suitable comment!

COOL Vid CHARL .. IF IT LOOKS , Then it is , SPITFIRE .. The handling , guess Realair have it on the nose , off course for others , best to have rudder pedals to understand the dynamics and design .

BOB .. Hecks .. Over the last 6 weeks , no the screenplay and lines like TOPGUN  not good ! .... umm ...

Can't access your video Charl -password required. Didnt spot the link to Planedesign - hmm maybe........

Apparently one of the beta testers & flight model adviser was Dudley Henriques (think I got the name right). A P-51 airshow pilot (he has written articles on Simflight). Presumably he also flown a Spitfire.

Edit: Video link now works

Yeah it's time someone made an aeroplane movie.
Hang on, wasn't that Jackson fellow...

Designer Ed Walters says:
QUOTE
The severity of these effects were tuned with the assistance of renowned test pilot Andy Sephton - he would test fly the aircraft, report back, we would tweak and send a new file, and he would test the change, in real time. The handling was much more sedate before his input, and YES, I felt like an idiot when I first flew it, but "these are the things that remind you you're flying a Spitfire, not a Chipmunk"![/quote]

Something else this does, that I haven't seen on any other fligtsim model:
The canopy can be cranked open using the handle in the VC, just far enough to give a little fresh air!

You can tell I'm having fun, can't you?

Yes I have...although why anybody would want to, is quite beyond me...

OOPS! Wrong camo for NZ.
Here you go:

OK just yanking your chain, matey!
It does go into FSX, but with crippled features, so not worth the bother really...

Have you got any further with controlling her Charl?...I was thinking about getting the aircraft myself but after your comments and reading the reviews about her rather unique flight characteristics I think I will give her a wide berth

I have the Realair and WOP Spits both of which are a pleasure to fly....WOP Spit can have a bit of a mind of its own on landing at times but other than that shes fine.

I should take offence, after I posted my superb (albeit very slightly wobbly) take-off and landing video, above! :D
To be honest, I have reservations about the flight model - even if it is correct in the absolute sense, there is something not "right" about it in the sim.
The development feedback from RW pilots has to be translated, and I think something got lost in the translation.
I might go look for a different air file for this one, as the external model is stunning, and the sound, superb.

Personally, I think that if it's tricky to fly then it's probably not a very accurate flight model. I've read a number of reports from pilots who flew the Spit all of whom comment on how easy it is to fly...

Even the Germans commented on how it was much more forgiving that a 109, for example...

The modellers tell me that this is true of the early Marks, but for the later ones (esp Griffon-powered clipped wing) it's another story entirely.
It's one reason they went contra-prop.
And fuel management is critically mentioned in the pilot's handbook: No flick rolls aerobatics etc when full.

Thats due to the 109s high wing load ... it showed in combat turn radius , in saying that some top German aces would not fly anything else Eric Hartmann being one .
