There are still too many threads which get out of hand because someone objects to a post, and posts in reply. If you read something which you find offensive, it probably breaks our rules, so report it to a moderator! Don't reply at all, as this is the quickest way to get a thread spiralling out of control. There have been a number of out-of-control slanging matches lately, any one of which could have been prevented by just one person messaging a moderator and saying, hey, this is a bit offensive, please delete it.

Late last night I received an email addressed to the forum admin, full of threats, and mentioning a restraining order. It included this charming sentence:
QUOTE
You have all had plenty of time and warnings to get your members into line so I am now left with no other avenues and always remember your Forum is a PUBLIC Forum and hence you could be in beach of many more Laws.
I've had a lot of issues in the past with the sender, and have long-since directly his countless abusive emails to the trash, but a quick look through the trash found nine emails yesterday, all offering different degrees of threats and abuse. One of them maintained that a restraining order had been granted against me? and our members?? I'm not too sure of this, as I suspect that this is a scare tactic, and it's not the first time that people have used forged documents to make their point. I will make a copy of the 'restraining order' available to anyone who is concerned about the consequences.

So for the time being a need to warn members that mentioning any of these people listed in the restraining order -- Ian Thatcher, Tracey Thatcher, James Harris, any combination of these, or referring to them in any way which may identify them, is strictly prohibited on this forum. This includes anything such as Th*****r, and unfortunately prevents me from using my newly invented term 'harrisment'. Any breach will result in a suspension, and repeated breaches will mean a life-time ban.

I need to make it clear that I do not give any validity to the restraining order, this is a measure to put this matter to rest once and for all. It applies to all parties -- if the people responsible for these attacks on the forum -- and me -- continue in any way, I will just dump every crazy email they've ever sent me onto the web and members can make up their own minds on the matter.

For those who think that we're bending over too far to cater to the crazies, I will post my one and only reply to them on this matter:
QUOTE
Personally, I say bring it on, you absolute crazy ****. Your countless threats have finally gone too far. Stick that up your Arrest Warrant.
...which is my own personal reaction, and in no ways represent the official response from NZFF:)

This will remain open for comments, but must strictly comply with the new rule, so be careful. Also I can be contacted by PM if anyone is concerned about how this may affect them.

Thanks for the heads up. Good to see we (well some of us..) in New Zealand still have common sense to add a bit of humour when there is an issue at hand. smile.gif

Hmmm, this isn't going to go away, I think. I've just received this:
QUOTE
Dear Robin,

If you are BLOCKING my emails as you have indicated I should remind you that I have an account with you are http://windowlight.co.nz.

If you have Blocked my email address I will have to place a "Dispute" with Paypal and that my account is refuned for the $65.00 I paid for VLC.

PayPal status: Completed @ 23:07:32 Oct 08, 2010 PDT Trans ID:
Amount: 65.00 NZD
His payment is past the dispute period, so I've sent him a refund. What next do you think?

Robin.. it was you that said you wanted my email address blocked and yes I did purchase on behalf of (removed to comply with the new forum rule) but as she no longer interested in Flightsim she doesn't need a licence anymore.

The ONLY other thing I have in mind is your "POSTAL ADDRESS" and is it as per your "Whois" information so you can be sent a legal copy of the Restraining Order".

If I can't do that then it only sows that your own Forum Post as to whether the Restraining Order is in fact legit nothing by rubbish on your part.. you want the proof but not prepared to have a legit Copy as "Signed and Stamped"
by the Tasmanian Supreme Court" !!

Robin, make up your mind what you REALLY want !

And please remember every post with an extract of my emails is being monitored and as it's against Australian and New Zealand Privacy Laws and it makes it even easier for more things to happen at my end :-)

As the email was sent using a Paypal Status I will now lodge a Complaint with Paypal which could result in both our accounts being terminated until such time as the despute is resolved.
Can anyone understand the highlighted sentence?

Hi Rob it looks like his typical bullshit with all the correspondence I have had with him he came across as a complete nutter full of useless threats and if his account was not under his own name then it is a fraudulent account and should be ignored and you have every reason to block it and refuse a refund.
A letter to him from a solicitor instead of useless threats that he uses might make him back off.

Please post the "Restraining Order" here as public record so that the members of the forum understand its implications. It would be imperative to do so as until such time we cannot act on something we don't have details of. We also need the full legal name and address of the person/entity requesting its enforcement in order to confirm its validity.

I am happy to obtain legal advice from family members who are lawyers and Police employees if an interpretation of its validity is required. It would also be helpful to detail the court that issued it and if available, information regarding that court's jurisdiction over this particular ad-hoc forum.

Cheers Robin,

Matt

Thanks, Matt, but at the moment I just have a PDF which could be anything -- there's nothing to suggest it is real, and if it is a phoney then it is meaningless. The last thing I need is for someone to say I made it myself:)

One thing I don't get is this...Most people that get restraining orders want nothing to do with the person on the restraining order and yet he keeps making more trouble with us.

OK Rob, thanks for the info.

For anyone interested, here is info regarding a Restraining Order in NZ.

http://www.justice.govt.nz/courts/civil/ci...training-orders

It may differ in the land of Tasmania. But then again most things do.

I'd certainly like to see this remain civil, guys.
However this chap has been busy overnight:

Sounds like a very personal vendetta Robin. By him, not you.

Very childish too.

Can we ignore this person and just get on with what we like to do?

I've done that in the past, and I will go back to ignoring it again, but in the meantime I think that this serves a few purposes. This has been going on for some time, and I've never quite been able to figure out whether it was someone with an issue with NZFF, or just me. Now I know. I also needed to know if the coincidental phoney scenery releases which crop up at the same time are made by the same people.
It also serves as a very effective illustration of how thoughtless online posts can escalate:)

And if I do need to give up scenery work, people will have a good idea of how these things can happen.

But it does look like NZFF is in no danger, these people have owned the NZFF.org.nz name for a while now, when we abandoned it. They did create the 'NZ Flightsim Farts' forum for a while, but I don't think that many of us noticed -- it started off quite funny, the admin was called 'littleRob' or something, and was a sort of parody of me. I was hoping it would develop into something truly great. Oh well. It was taken down when the site owner died, and the new owner kindly had it redirected here.

Its so sad that some peoples lives consist of making other peoples a misery, especially if they are not even living in this country. I like many others are fully behind this site and what it represents as well as Robin's (and indeed everybody elses) great work. I hope that this all dies a natural death and things sort themselves out!
