Recently NZFF has been under constant attack from bots which attempt to login as members. Although there are a number of precautions in place to prevent this, there are some issues which members need to be aware of:

  • It may be time to think about changing your login password to something a but more secure, if you have used a simple password in the past.
  • If you are unable to login and it appears that your account is locked, contact an administrator who will check and unlock your account if necessary.
  • Using the 'remember me' function when you login helps, as it means that you can still access the forum even if your account is locked. However don't use this if your computer is accessible to anyone else!

So a simple plan to maintain secure access to the forum is to have a complex password, and to have yourself automatically logged in using 'remember me'. There are a number of ways to make sure that your password is complex enough to evade this sort of bot attack, so please ask me if you need help. One thing to note is that if you have forgotten your password, you can request a new one, and the supplied password is highly secure.

Other current attacks on NZFF include bot signups, which we are managing well, and a huge amount of spam aimed at the NZFF email addresses. Please help by notifying us of anything which seems suspicious, such as spam-like PMs or posts.
