I can kind of see your point, and I do think you hit the nail on the head with your comment about being a generational thing. Starting from that, though, I tend to come to a different conclusion. There are a lot of 'real world' things which really don't transfer well to the net, so people's reactions will be different here than what you'd expect off the web. My normal reaction to interesting posts here is to write a reply, but about 2 thirds of the time I end up discarding it, unless I really, really have a very good reason for adding my opinion.
The danger is to end up with too many throw-away opinions, and I tend to go overboard the other way. If I comment on a screenshot, for instance, it is normally because of a genuine 'wow' moment above and beyond the normal standard, which is, as it should be, high.
There's an interesting discussion on the Orbx forum at the moment about the overly positive reactions to every screenshot forum post -- it gets very treacly there sometimes, which can work against the spirit of the forum.
In my case, I recall that the last time I won the comp, I acknowledged it later with a couple of screenshots of my prize. That suits me, but I know that my attitudes are very much my own.

Splitpin - I'm with you. As I trundle around the skies, hoping for that ace screenie which will perfectly meet that month's rules, all I have to do when it appears is push the button. Sure, I plan a bit and try to get good lighting etc, but at the end of the day I cannot do any of that without a lot of things that others have provided for free, or at a very modest cost.
So I try to spell it out - Aircraft by A, Scenery by B, Addon by C, Intrepid flying by Ghanpa - to me that is just common politeness. I also hope it encourages others who want to make the same sort of screenies to support the developers who make them possible.

What a wonderful description;..."Treacly"..

...!
The crisp; "Well done, that Man!"...

...is fine...
...but when it comes to kisses, cuddles, and manly-hugs....that's when I get embarrassed, and I go out shopping to my local Supermarket instead!...

...!
Paul...."Well done....that Man/Lady!"....

...!
Split....In case you are in need of a quick cuddle...just let me know.....

....

....!

Sorry, I don't know if this was directed at me or not, but I left on Wednesday morning for to help out on a school camp, which has no reception. I arrived back yesterday, logged in quickly to check for any really important stuff, and have only just logged in this morning to actually get round to doing some posting and reading all the topics. But yes I can see where your coming from, and I'm sorry if I have caused any offense.

Paul , and people say i have a way with words

.. One thing in regards to the general aviation (GA) man hugs

is the recognition , not for the recognition but for when people steal my or a dedicated teams work and labeling it as there own , least it people see who put the effort in we then have a leg to stand on , hence the reason i put everyone ones name on the title as an author for it may only be 3 four photos for example or a scratch on a piece paper because no one reads the READMES
90% of all works if done properly are only due to a team

now back to the Butterflies

As I said, in the real world things would be different. We'd all be standing around in the NZFF clubhouse, looking at the screenshot on display (framed, lit by a single spot) and Marty would say 'Where is Andrew, anyway?' Then the door would fly open, and Andrew would be standing there, sandfly-bitten, frost-bitten, sunburnt, and he'd say 'who's buying!?'
The web is a very unnatural place for real people, so no need to say sorry.

Ok.. so that post, Sir Rob, *did* make me smile... a genuine, "all is good in the world" smile....

All we need is the clubhouse, I have a frame and spot light sorted... oh and we'll need a fridge.

I fully support the idea of a Club, and Clubhouse, and suggest that it should be established in Tauranga, preferably within
walking (as opposed to driving) distance from my place.
