Can anyone point me to a copy of the forum terms and conditions? ie. the ones that I had to tick 'I agree' to when I signed up... I cannot seem to find a link to them anywhere and would like to double check something.

In the interests of transparency, I will say that this is in relation to the VPN and Trolly granting them 'Carte Blanche' permission to use any and everything posted on this board as they see fit.

I will also say that while I am not against this, per se, I am a little disturbed that there was no consultation, so I would like to check:

a. what the stated policy on 'ownership' of posted content is
b. whether the ability for board admins to grant this sort of permission was actually in the T&C's

I was going to 'publish' some material, but will hold off until this has been clarified.

regards,
Jared

You'll only find them on the Registration page when you sign up. They are very "broad". The item you're looking for is the very last one and it is rather ambiguous.

I, too, was a tad surprised at Trolly's carte blanche invitation.

I was also perturbed by this development. I have made contact with Trolly, and urged him to lift the rights he has given VPN until we can set up firm guidelines on where and how they gather 'news' from this forum - and a poll (or similar) to gauge members' opinion on the topic.

Jared, the Terms and Conditions for NZFF(.org) are as follows;
Forum Terms & Rules

Please take a moment to review these rules detailed below. If you agree with them and wish to proceed with the registration, simply click the "Register" button below. To cancel this registration, simply hit the 'back' button on your browser.

Please remember that we are not responsible for any messages posted. We do not vouch for or warrant the accuracy, completeness or usefulness of any message, and are not responsible for the contents of any message.

The messages express the views of the author of the message, not necessarily the views of this bulletin board. Any user who feels that a posted message is objectionable is encouraged to contact us immediately by email. We have the ability to remove objectionable messages and we will make every effort to do so, within a reasonable time frame, if we determine that removal is necessary.

You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this bulletin board to post any material which is knowingly false and/or defamatory, inaccurate, abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing, obscene, profane, sexually oriented, threatening, invasive of a person's privacy, or otherwise violative of any law.

You agree not to post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or by this bulletin board.

I agree with the sentiments in your post. It is clear that we do not have the right to give VPN the permission to re-publish 'news' from NZFF.org as they see fit - as we do not own it.

I think that the move here has been rushed, and taken without a great deal of thought - this I have also echoed in my contact with Trolly. I am sure that we will have to backtrack, and impose conditions (if this happens at all now) on VPN if they wish to continue taking items posted at NZFF for their own use.

Hopefully this helps clarify things slightly, and I will let you know what happens. winkyy.gif

Apologies,

Alex

I can't remember what it stands for off the top of my head, VOZ Powered News or something. winkyy.gif

I've just recieved a message from Andrew regarding this. VPN will individually contact the creator/publisher of the content they would like to publish to obtain their permission before using it for their purposes. I hope that this is satisfactory. smile.gif

This is often forgotten by people who quote others or their work.

Compleatly understandable HCP. I automatically thought there would be no objection to this, but after some closer consideration have altered the permissions with Gazza from VPN so that the original authors of any information published have to give thier permission before it is uploaded.

In the IT industry VPN stands for Virtual Private Network. Google it and you'll find plenty of stuff.

I'm currently at the NZ Software Testers conference in Wgtn and some of us have been discussing issues around VPN's. They can be a bit of a mine field at times.

I better add, that in the FS industry, VPN stands for 'Voz Powered News'

See here: http://www.orbxsystems.com/vozpowerednews/

More than satisfactory. Thanks for the quick response guys.

as for VPNs:

IT-related VPN = Virtual Private Network. Usually an encrypted link between a remote computer and a company's internal network via 'The Intarwebby'. And as Bandit mentioned... a real PITA at times...

FS VPN = Voz Powered News. A FS newsletter.

Who's stealing what now?

Geez it must be something pretty important if there's such a fuss being made. If not, why does it matter?

I was contacted via PM by Garry, and he has asked me permission to showcase the NZ Retro-AI project in the next issue of the magazine. His approach, and his attitude were entirely proffessional and friendly. I have given permission for this article to go ahead, and am furnishing him with text about the project, and also pics from the testing of the first 2 parts of the project. He will edit this text to suit and fit the mag, and choose the pics he wants, but he will run it all past me first before publication.
Personally i think this is a very good chance for all of us to showcase the beauty and wonders of flying in little 'ole NZ.
So much incredible beauty packed into such a compact area, ideal for "low and slow" VFR exploring of the wonders here.
And we do have so much to offer the FS community in the way of addons for FS, from the many wonderful freeware NZ airport scenery developers, to projects like Charl's GNZLAP, and even the Retro-AI project, ..... not every ones cup of tea, but certainly a different and unique sort of project,..... right up to the incredible payware work of people like Christian Stock with his 20m NZ Terrain Mesh and NZ Topo Scenery, and of course Robin Corn's Fabulous RealNZ airport sceneries !!
This is an opportunity for all of us to be proud of what we have accomplished here on NZFF and in the NZ FS community in general.
Why not let the world see how good we are, and what we have to offer ??
To use Craigs words,............... thats just "my 2 cents worth" on the matter, for what its worth...........................

Lawrie.
