Hi again guys,

We are finally back up and running thanks to the many generous donations we received from you members- the transfer is not completely finished yet, currently we are about 90% through the moving process, and you will experience logging in issues and NZFF.org redirections for a further few days yet (more information here). However, you are welcome to continue posting new topics and replies once again, as most of you have discovered, I’m sure we all have a lot to catch up from the week we were closed for!

In other news, resident FSX aircraft designer, Nigel Booth has released two new stunning RNZAF freeware models, the CT-4 Red Checkers Airtainer, and the BAC 167 Strikemaster jet fighter, both of which will be available from Flightsim.com and the official airforce website in a matter of days. Browse through the NZFF Announcements sub forum for some preview screenshots that will have you drooling over your keyboards!

Another in house FSX designer, Tim Barnes has released a neat new little scenery project, this time of the Coromandel Airdrome, that fits seamlessly into Robin Corn’s freeware photoreal scenery of the larger peninsular area. Both addons can be found at avsim.com by searching for the mentioned the authors names.

Also, we have made the decision to scrap the “Minimal, (brighten/contrast, sharpening, blurring etc, no importation of other images)â€￾ rule in future screenshot competitions from this month onwards.

During the few previous months that we have implemented this rule, it has managed to hinder creativity and cause enough controversy in the forums that we saw the fun and interest become drained out of the monthly topic, so from now on, we will be reverting back to the ‘Editing is allowed, if you know how to do it. The more stunning your shots look the better!â€￾ rule. Although the Editing Poll shows varied results, we are confident that the tried and tested method that we have been using for nearly two years will continue with the same success that it has had in the past. Make sure you vote for your favourite entry from the May Competition here to decide who will win the awesome Flight Experience prize, before uploading a new entry into the Wild Weather themed June competition here!

Following on from this, I have two important requests to make: As I will be leaving the country in July, and not returning until December, I will need someone else to host the monthly screenshot competitions for the remainder of the year. This means, coming up with 6 new theme ideas, posting up the thread for other members to enter, supplying a prize (either by requesting sponsorship from payware developers or purchasing new addons with your own cash), then creating voting poll, then editing the winning shot into a website banner.

Secondly, while I am away, I won’t be able visit the forums as frequently as I do now, meaning I won’t have enough information on new community events to write a letter like these each month. I am hoping to find a volunteer to take up this task for me, summarising forum happenings every 30 days which can then be bulk mailed to registered members email addresses- please contact me via email or PM if you are interested in accepting either of the above requests.

In other Real World Aviation news, Doug Brooker’s twin seater Spitfire has finally arrived in the country and has been seen flying out of Ardmore. The vintage WW2 fighter was meant to have been the star attraction at several of the summer airshows around the country, but was unfortunately impounded by US customs. Videos of ZK-WDQ can be viewed at the TV3 website, and one of our newest members has promised to post his own exclusive photographs in the forums soon! Coincidently, Aeroplane Heaven released a freeware duel-seat T.9 Spitfire (for both FS2004 and FSX) here, which is just begging for a repaint in the desert scheme that ZK-WDQ now appears in! If you think you are up to the challenge of making this happen- don’t hesitate at all to post it on the forums for everyone to enjoy!

That’s all for now- cheers,
Andrew

Sorry for the title confusion- this newsletter was published in the month of June but covers events in the month of May
