The last time last year, about a year ago a poll was run asking our users what version of Flightsim they predominately used - The result was around 65% FS9 to 30% FSX
As time goes on Im wondering how these values have changed, and more importantly what impact this could have on FRENZY (Specifically: Is developing for FS9 still 'worth it')
Now, as a FSX user I am of course biased toward FSX and I only develop for FSX. Given that nothing too much concrete has happened on this project yet, id envisage that it would be later this year before a first Frenzy release takes place. As times goes on more users will of course move towards FSX (as the price of hardware and software comes down and more addons are created etc)
Lawrie 'Snowman' has been busy creating FS9 airports and has done a great job covering NZ I feel. There is also a fair amount of difference in programs/methodology between FS9 and FSX SDK work so its not (always) as easy as creating it once and runnning the data through the respective compiler/convertor.
So- I think its time to carry out another poll. If the results of that suggest that usage has swung in favour of FSX then we should ask the question 'Should Frenzy become a FSX Scenery project'?
Now a couple of points: Im certainly not suggesting that we abandon FS9 Scenery but perhaps treat FS9 Frenzy as more of a collation of existing scenery and treat the FSX Frenzy as collation and creation of new scenery?
I also think, even though this is a NZFF project, that this poll should be notified on the ARNZX forum to ensure the most accurate measure of FS usage in NZ is obtained (a lot of users there, including me, are active on both forums but ARNZX is a FSX stronghold)
Thoughts?
(Please treat this as a healthy discussion/debate- Sometimes these FS9/FSX threads descend into mudslinging)
